Van Dieman Llandow lap: PHTV

We've all seen Llandow lap vids but this is probably the fastest!

Van Dieman Formula X - Lap Of Llandow

Just a minute for today's PHTV clip, but there's no danger of any repetition, deviation or hesitation here. It comes from PHer MagicalTrevor in his Van Dieman racer with approximately 170hp. Quick at any circuit you'd imagine, but made to look especially rapid at the tight and tricky Llandow. And wouldn't you know, it's sunny in Wales!

Many thanks for your submission Trevor, and please continue to upload your vids to PHTV.

It was quick but I'm sure other Sprinters are faster, @andylaurence of this parish had done many more laps than me and will no doubt be faster in his ADR. But thanks anyway smile

They're actually just used F3 spec Avon slicks. Relatively hard compound compared to what we use in actual Sprints but I use them for test days because I can get the tyres for free from an F3 Cup team.

In actual fact, I check my notes and I was using Medium compound A11 on the front and Hard compound A24 on the back.

In their defence, I believe it goes to a media management company to publish on the website so not necessarily the PH management at fault.
I'm going easy on them, they put me on the front page wink

Looks fun!
I was slightly disappointed however to see this was the car circuit... the "tight and technical" description made me think it might be the kart track! biggrin

Funny you should say that. I entered a Sprint on Sunday in my Wife's Fiat 500 Twinair and the circuit was Clay Pigeon kart circuit

Looks a bit lively at the rear under braking into the bus stop, ideal track car though by the look of it! Do they generate much downforce? This was my slightly scruffy lap from 8 years ago in my old Locost Fireblade with 40bhp less and A048 road tyres, obviously no downforce on that so I was a little surprised it was only ~ 2 sec slower. Short lap though I guess, so times will be closer.

Yeah, that's why I cut the video there, I braked a touch too late there and it compromised the entry into the bus stop. The next lap wasn't so fast wink

It wasn't a fast lap for that car, I'm still getting to grips with a slicks and wings race car but I'm getting there! It was my first time out on track at Llandow.
Your lap looks great!

Yep must take a while to learn to trust downforce, and the faster you go the more grip you have. Decent little track Llandow though isn't it, doesnt look much from the track plan but good fun.

That's exactly it. Take the corner before the back straight, everytime I went round it I was thinking 'don't lift' as I reckon you I could go faster round it. But as you say, it's trusting the downforce and being brave enough to try it!
Ill get there, always learning and so long as in having fun then that's all that really matters!
