The polished and lacquered aluminium outer part of the 3 piece wheels on my 550 Maranello is the same as those on the F40. So has anyone had theor F40 wheels re-furbed? If so and you were happy can you post their details please.

I have just had some Ferrari split rims refurbished and returned to factory spec with the polished rims.

They were done by these people http://www.pristinealloywheels.co.uk and I have been pleased with the result.

They have also done some Ferrari Challenge wheels and the wheels on my Lamborghini again with excellent results

Strange, they are telling The Ferrari Centre, who have my car and have rung them on my behalf, that they don't do polished and lacquered aluminium rims!?

Platinum Alloy Wheel Solutions in Swindon look after the refurbs/colour changes for Dick Lovett Ferrari - seen lots of their work firsthand, all very very good indeed!

Re Pristine.

I purchased some Ferrari HGTE wheels that I was told had been refurbed by Pristine.
I recently curbed one, just a mild scratch. I called Pristine and asked for a quote for a refurb on the wheel - we discussed the fact they they were polished rims, with removable diamond cut centers. They assured me it was not going to be an issue to refurb the rims, they quoted and arranged for a courier to collect the wheel same day.
Two days later they called to advise that they were returning the wheel , because they could not refurb polished rims.

I contacted the person that i purchased the wheels from, who confirmed that Pristine has originally refurbed and polished the rims.

The rim is very lightly scratched, their action seems strange. Best to double check with them re polished rims..

They would not do my 3 piece 550 wheels as they said they do not do polish and lacquer aluminium. The only company who I could find to do it (there may be others) was Diamond Styling.

Strange. I've used them for polished rims on both Ferrari and Aston. Maybe they don't offer that service anymore. I suspect it's extremely labour intensive in comparison to a straightforward refurb in silver. Maybe there wasn't enough money in it.

Roygarth, what was the finish like on your wheel?

I'll let you know when I pick car up from The Ferrari Centre next week. Roger the boss at TFC says they look fantastic.

I think there is something very strange going on at Pristine. I sent them an email about having 4 sets of wheels done.
4 subsequent emails and then 6 weeks after the last one I get a phone call telling me to go through an agent.

I do that and then after 2 weeks the agent for them gets pissed off being fobbed off, having emails ignored and then Pristine hanging up on the phone to them.

I don't think anyone can knock their work but their customer service is truly appalling in both my recent own experience and also that of the local agent who is so miffed that he is no longer dealing with them and looking for a new provider.

Real shame as hard to find excellent and faultless quality workmanship these days.

I think I'll go for Platinum (old lepsons) and give them two of the lesser wheels before I hand over my Lambo splits.

I even have a friend who runs a well known refurb company but I don't trust them as their work isn't consistent enough for my liking!

Just to be clear Re Pristine. Maybe they had good reason to return my wheels.

Further to the posts here re Diamond Styling, I contacted Diamond Styling - twice.

First time i spoke to a lady, who was helpful and to sum up a long conversation, yes they could refurb the Ferrari HGTE split rims, and they could arrange collection if required. Though i emphasised the fact they they were split rims and i wanted them polished, the lady I was speaking to did not seem to see any issue. After my experience with Pristine I was a little concerned that I'd end up with them being returned.

So I pondered on what to do for a few days and called them back. This time I spoke to a guy called Paul, who immediately understood which wheels I had and explained why there might be an issue. It seems that the Ferrari 3 piece split rims can present problems when re sealing and sometimes present problems when removing the bolts (I guess maybe the corrode over time) and apparently the Ferrari rims have a very thin outer lip that can only be refurbed once or twice before its too thin to re work ( Note that if you are buying second user Ferrari Split rims) His reservations were to the extent that he was reluctant to discuss a price over the phone and didn't suggest that i just sent them in. We have arranged for me to take the wheels to Diamond Styling for inspection / discussion over options before they quote on the refurb.

Maybe Pristine have had some issues with split rims, and that's the reason they sent my wheels back. Pristine could have done themselves a favor by explaining why they will not touch polished split rims.

I've got the car back and they look fantastic. Cost was just under a grand which I consider good value bearing in mind the amount of work involved.

Paul is the person to speak to. He handled my job from initial chat when I rang, thru updates etc etc. there was even a maternity ward style tag on the steering wheel reminded me to re-torque the wheels after 100 miles. Very pleased with them and would use again.

Thanks for the advise and recommendations.

I did eventually get around to visiting Paul at Diamond Styling, with 5 HGTE wheels and tyres. Paul clearly knows his stuff, he advised on the best course of action for the refurb and the various finishes that are available. We decide upon a move away from the standard OEM matte finish, I opted for diamond cut centers and polished rims with a gloss lacquer....

I needed one wheel back in a week for an event that I planned to attend. They did a great job polishing out a “curbing rash” on a polished rim and had the wheel ready for me in good time.

He's a pretty cool guy, allowing me to take some photographs of the diamond cutting lathe and explained it interesting history, also showing me around the ceramic polishing equipment. We had a very interesting chat about wheels and materials, Paul has a wealth of knowledge and he’s willing to share.

The other four wheels were diamond cut, painted and lacquered, I collected them the following week. I’m really pleased with them, they look great.

Good service, pleasant character and a reasonable price.....I have no hesitation in recommending Diamond Styling.

Some images of the wheels after Diamond Styling completed their work

A few years back I had my M3 wheels done at Pristine. Nice bunch of lads.

The wheels bubbled a couple of month later so I went back. They gave me a bit of paper saying if the wheels weren't up to scratch, I'd have to partially for the re-work. They didn't tell me that at the time so "as a gesture, this once" they re-did them, explaining how it wasn't their fault. If they needed doing again, I'd have to pay. I think it was something like 60% of original price.

Fair enough, but had they explained that before, I'd have gone elsewhere! probably to Lepsons.

Everyone raves about Pristine. I haven't used them since.
