Vantage Roadster 2009 Roof Fail - Fed up
Discussion
Sounds like the Roof Module has failed, mine went last July, £500 for the module + Fitting (inc coding) = £750
The module itself is made in Germany by Webasto and is located the rear wheel arch behind the driver.
In my case the dealer did not have the part in stock and the factory removed one from a car in production since my car was off the road and could not be driven due to the
fact that the module failure also disabled the speedo, rev counter etc (this is linked to being able to drop the roof whilst driving below 30mph apparently)
If you refer to my reply about replacing the battery on your car, the two black cords are pulled and this allows the tonneau cover to be released and manual operation of the roof.

Thanks
Is this a straight swap that a local garage could sort?
I just checked my invoice from last year and the dealer charged for "fit & code roof control module" so I think it needs the dealer software. Is this a straight swap that a local garage could sort?
I actually replaced my battery like you have just done when this fault developed, but it was the roof module.
The strange thing is that the roof was still operable but the dashboard went haywire, no speedo, rev counter, indicators etc
If you are good with DIY you could get access to the module by removing the rear wheel arch liner and try disconnecting it and reconnecting it.
But since you have replaced the battery (like me) this probably has the same effect as disconnecting the module itself.
In my case the AA took the car to the dealer on a flatbed, since it was not technically drivable
I had my roadster refuse to open its roof a couple of weeks back - "no roof operation possible". Gave it a full charge and nothing happening. I discovered that holding the roof button in the close position for about five seconds seems to reset the module. After doing this it has opened normally. Could help someone else in the future.

Hi,
Had this happen to me, new roof module required and had to be fitted and 'enabled' by Aston. Fiddly job to change it but perfectly dooable, thing is it still needs to go to Aston to make it work, so I let them do it as the price to supply the unit and code it vs them doing it all wasn't much different. About £500 if I remember.

Are you getting any error messages? Also is the outside temperature reading correct? I Fixed my problem with ambient air temp sensor which cost approx £30 and took 30 minutes to fit. The roof won't go up or down if too hot or too cold!!!!!! Good luck
In mine, regardless of temperature, the roof automatically goes up if the wife gets in... and down as soon as she gets out am08cob said:

Actually the sensor is about half that cost and takes less than ten minutes to fit but you do need nimble fingers. Actual cost of sensor for me was £17.04 + VAT plus postage so approx £26.00 delivered. Would be interested to know where you can get one for £15.00, so please share so we can all benefit. As for fitting depends on how easy the Bolts holding on the grille. Though if you can pop the bonnet, undo the 2 nuts and bolts, remove the grille, replace the sensor and then replace the grille and 8 fittings in 10 minutes you are a much better person than me.
