Just out of curiosity, who is going to be using their GT4 as a daily driver?

I have been thinking about this. I previously put 34k miles on my 987 Spyder over 14 months rain or shine (buckets and no aircon) so I don't think it would be a hardship. My fear if its not my daily is that my Cayenne would be the easier option and I would never drive it. I don't subscribe to the notion of a garage queen being polished after every drive!

I am but I don't travel at 9 and 5 and work from home.

I also have another car to use for shopping and tip trips etc.

Not me,but then again I would never have considered a 997gt3 as a daily drive ,but many did use them daily.

The reality is it will probably be just about bearable as a dd,but there are so many cars better at that role, you've got to be quite errrr...dedicated /hardcore ?

I'm sure the GT4 could be used as a daily driver, I'm just not sure why you would use it for that purpose, unless you could only accommodate one car.

I spent 7 years with a 997 C4S as my only car used every day and this was a job it performed faultlessly. That did mean I took it for granted and hence 'fun drives' weren't quite as memorable as they might otherwise have been.

Prior to buying my GT3, I bought a cheap 'station car' which is now used for the mundane journeys and which can be left anywhere without a concern as to what might happen to it - this leaves my GT3 for the fun stuff and I've already done over 5,000 miles in the 9 months I've owned it, 4 of which were winter months when it seldom left the garage.

I'd recommend NOT using the GT4 daily but using it as frequently as possible to enjoy!

I take it you have driven a GT4.

Very few people have. Doesn't mean they don't have a view on whether GT? cars should be used as daily drivers.

I have always kept my Porsche as my 'special' car and would do the same if I had a GT4, hence I would also advise the OP not to use a GT4 as daily driver.

This is called empirical rationalism - it's a form of logic disliked by ststirrers.

I've currently got a Cayman 2.9 PDK (going soon) and I've been using that as my DD for 3 years (hence nearly touching 33k miles)

With the GT4 coming, I don't see it being my DD and I've got a Golf coming soon to use as that. However, I don't want the GT4 to be hidden in the garage all the time - it will most certainly be frequently driven smile

Mine won't be my daily drive as I have a Cayenne for that but the GT4 won't be a garage queen as it will be used frequently but what to keep it as everytime it is driven it is an event

Sidicks frequently derided people who commented on the 991GT3 but had had not driven it (or he thought had not driven the car). biggrin

Many have driven the GT4,and it is seen as more hard core than its predecessor. Evo's view - brilliant fun on road and track.

I'm sorry you can't understand the difference between comparing two things (where you have no experience of one) and simply stating an opinion in isolation.

I think the GT4 will be usable as a DD, based on what we know about it.

I have NOT stated that the GT4 would be more or less usable than the 991 GT3, 997 GT3 or any other car.

How about you both just f*@k off so this topic doesn't descend into the same crap as just about every other GT topic on here.

I'm the one that tried to respond to the OP's question. It was Mermaid who added nothing but tried to score cheap points.

I'd use it as a DD if it had the better PDK box ;-))

Seem to recollect some American or similar relatively esteemed journo ranked the GT4 slightly less usable as a daily than the 991 GT3 but this was purely on the basis of absence of front lift option. So if that is not an issue I see no reason why it could not be used for daily chores etc.

One point which came out from the relatively lame sparring contest on the GT4 thread between two German chums in their Carrera GTS and GT4 was that the exhaust note at c125 db was only c3 db more than the GTS so presumably the synthetic fartiness typical of the Cayman S with sports exhaust which is too intrusive for some should not be an issue on a daily basis.

When the wife has our Golf R family / shared car (quite often) mine will be driven to the train station and parked there all day and to the shops / golf etc.

So as good as a daily driver for me. As well as weekend blating if I need to go some where or fancy taking it, it will be going. Pointless it just sitting there and don't see it being that unusable TBH. Yes it's a bit low and not much storage but that applies to lots of cars that people use to get from A to B

I intend to use my GT4 as a daily driver - it will replace the V12 Vantage that I currently use a daily driver (all year round)!

The only potential downsides to the GT4 over the V12V I am expecting are :
  • Ground clearance issues
  • Lack of parking sensors
  • Lack of a quality audio
However with the possible exception of the first one, none of these are show stoppers albeit they may limit appeal compared to the all round competence of the V12V. Why wouldn't any petrolhead want to drive a car every day that puts a smile on their face?

All that said I currently thinking that I will just hang onto the V12V for 6mths overlap, just in case the GT4 doesn't tick the boxes in quite the same way and I have to roll back my decision.

Like most people with the wherewithal to buy a GT4 I have quite a few cars so sometimes it's the only one with fuel in it that gets the nod ( thanks kids). However I shall use mine as often as possible and whenever it's the suitable car for the job. Does that make it a DD? Not much good for towing the race car mind you! I used to have a KTM X-Bow and that got used as much as possible even in the blinding rain. It's a bit of an academic question as some people will happily drive round in anything all day, Caterham???
