Tyre sidewall bulge - defect / warranty claim?

Could the damage to the side wall have been caused by a pot hole or grate rather than an interface with a kerb?

I've seen spare tyres do this when they have been stored in the cage type holder you have under the car. I assume your car has a space saver and is stored in the front, so not the case here. What is the manufactured date on them?

First pic , tiny damage to side wall on the gap between the undeline of Michelin and the surround to the box. What is the horisontal line of damage on the second pic above the tyre weighting 101Y ? I have seen a smimilar bulge on one of my tyres after I foolishly parked part on / part off a kerb. If returned to Michelin I think the best you would get is a good will gesture, but I'm no tyre expert.

Are they bulging like that on the inside too.

You would think that if a pothole or similar had caused that to happen there would be some markings/damage or even bending of the rim.

It's not common, but you can get at least part of your money back. Given it won't cost you anything to put in the warranty claim you should do it anyway.

Given it's in two locations it could actually be they broke the carcass trying to get it on the wheel, rare but it does happen. You won't get the garage to admit to this sadly.

Also, FWIW, it doesn't need to be a big crash to break the cording in the tyre, if you pinch it in a very unfortunately way in any pothole it can damage the insides.
