Aventador SV 'ring lap: Time For (late) Tea?

What does 750hp, less weight and a sod-off spoiler get you at the 'ring? A lap time beginning with a '6'...

The sheer proliferation of Nurburgring-related stories has rendered us all a little blase about the latest lap time. Thanks to estates running under eight minutes and a plain old 911 Carrera clocking 7:40, it's all too easy to become dismissive about yet another 12.9 miles.

Some definitely warrant attention though. Like this one. It's a Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SV, a car being launched to the media very soon, lapping the Nordschleife in 6:59. Six minutes and fifty nine seconds. Or two seconds off the 918 Spyder, 15 seconds quicker than a Lexus LFA Nurburgring and only 11 seconds off the road car record held by the Radical SR8 LM. Regardless of whether you care about these things or not, that's a phenomenal achievement.

The video says the lap was completed on Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres with no mention of modifications. We'll give Lamborghini the benefit of the doubt now and assume the additional downforce from that new wing and front end has really paid off! It's a video to savour, no doubt. Check the big wiggle from the exit of Escbach to Brunnchen for the commitment...

Watch the vid here.

Im sceptical this can get anywhere near the 918 time, with the modifications as mentioned.

I would imagine it would have to be virtually race prepared and a lot! of weight taken out.

Balls of steel hustling that big beauty around so quickly! And it sounds glorious. Why can't we have NA aspirated engines that rev to 8500 in normal cars anymore? You can't save the planet anyway. Cellular life dies out in 800 million years and the sun destroys the Earth in 4 billion years so, fk it, let's have some fun.

The start and stop points are about 150m apart so I would say a true lap would be about 7:04

Hmm - this must be a million miles for Chris Harris' understeering pig press car with the flammable brakes. Great lap nonetheless.

He has grabbed the bull by its horns and ridden it as if he's told all his family will be slaughtered if he doesn't do an under 7:00 min lap. LOL!
His speeds at key sections are incredible whilst bull car wants to shake him off its back. Respect!

Always nice to see someone take a race track corner at 200mph in a road car. He was still accelerating slightly as well, gained a bit to pop out at 200.6mph imperial.

Who's the driver?

And who needs batteries?

To show that they are not just chest wig chariots by walking the walk without any fancy hybrid gubbins or turbos in sight. Well done Lamborghini, very impressive and truly astonishing pace.

I also wonder whether or not the batteries on a 918 can sustain full assistance for the entire lap of the Nurburgring. My guess is they couldn't, and that there would be times when it's running petrol only.

Absolutely glorious. I normally get bored of watching these videos about half way through but loved every second of that.

Come on McLaren, just tell us the sodding time you got.

He actually hit 325kmh on the hill down from Antoniusbuche which is 201.9.......!

Look incredibly unwieldy and I think from his short shifts after Brunnchen that his tyres were getting past their best.......

Max Venturi?
