What do we know about upcoming models?

(Not talking about the SUV or the saloon which, as lovely as they will be, isn't what I'm looking for...)

Launch dates
Engines
Gearbox (I subject of much debate here!)
Performance
Models
Design

I've seen snippets about them. For example the DB9 replacement is first up and due next year and will have V8 and V12...I think...

Factory 'conversations' /industry views or other informed views would be interesting to read.

As you say, DB11 (if that is the chosen name) to be available from September 2016 (MY2017).
Expected launch, Geneva Motor Show next spring.

Vantage mk 2 available from September 2017.

The giveaway for the introduction dates, was the appeal to the US authorities about the safety matter.

I wonder if we will see the DB10 'shark front', on these new models? Personally, I hope not.

Reading the Evo group test yesterday with the N430, 911 Turbo, GTR and the new AMG.
AMG wins, but the N430 takes a fantastic joint 2nd place in the test...so got me thinking what would the replacement potential be like with new power plants/gearbox and further tweaks...

The timescale posted above is thought to be correct by most

Most people are assuming that a dual clutch gearbox will takeover duties from most if not all of the 2 pedal systems, with manual being an option for some models. Can't see them keeping the single clutch systems but it wouldn't surprise me if they keep the touchtronic in some of the GTs

Merc will supply some infotainment/electronic systems

Chassis will by & large be developments of current architecture rather than being bought in from merc

the big questions remain engines - the only confirmed engine from merc is the V8. Most likely scenario is the merc twin turbo V8 in various states of tune in the Vantage replacement, with the equivalent of the current V12V & GT12 almost certainly being based on the V8 in a top state of tune. A development of the existing V12, probably turbocharged and of slightly smaller capacity, will most likely feature in DB9. How vanquish fits into the line up going forward is an interesting question

Those 3 cars, plus DBX & Rapide, make 5 cars. Taraf doesn't really count as being part of the 'production range' in my book. It has been suggested in interviews with Andy Palmer that there will be a 6 car range going forward................it hasn't been specified whether that includes or excludes Lagonda models

ARRGGHH!!! I haven't gotten my copy yet, and you've spoiled it -- now I know the result!

I'm not actually that upset, and it demonstrates what I keep saying -- the V8V, even at this stage of its life, is a far more competitive car than it's given credit for.

About the original question, we don't know enough yet, but if the engine is an electronically tweaked off-the-shelf AMG engine, I won't be a buyer.

For me as we'll as the new car specifications the important thng is how they are fastened together and to what extent the accountants influence the choice of supply chain.

In other words, will there be a step change in quality in the finished article?

Apologies! I haven't even read the article yet. Just the end, will now read it all the way through!
Haven't seen a AMG in the flesh yet, it looks like a tube of refreshers in the pictures. The Aston V8 is a true timeless beauty...and seems to be a fine car to drive even when compared to the most modern cars available.

I for one hope that the 'design language' doesn't veer to far away from what's there already, but if Aston can top it, they will have a winner on their hands.

The two themes that come across in this forum that need to be improved are:
- gearbox (manual or double clutch/fast auto)
- quality control

As for power: I'm sure everything will start at 500+ bhp! And I hope they are more than just AMG engines shunted in.

Infotainment...for me: who cares! I've got a garmin satnav and it does the job! And the "old fashioned" buttons, knobs and dials that sometimes people bemoan will still work at the same speed in 5 years time....And for all those touch screen systems that abound: think about how slow your iPad/iPod 1 is nowadays. If you haven't trashed them. That's what the latest versions in cars are going to be like in 5 years time. Tedious.

PS. I sincerely hope the V12s continue!

Guess is the DB11 it is said confirmed..???
DB11 will be offered two engines V8 possible turbo/ supercharged along with V12 possible current engines.. spec with major electronics upgrades...rumours rumours..
horses mouth, out the side off..

DB11 Body with possible more aggressive presence..
Gearbox 8 gear similar to current Rapide but conserable upgrade and faster , whatever that means.
As said Geneva will be the confirmation or otherwise of specifications.

I heard that the Vantage is going to get a centre console refresh this year, has anyone else heard this? Does that mean the new Vantage is still quite a few years away?

Yep - similar style to Vanquish........ Or more relevant, GT12.

As I mentioned previously, have been pondering what car next. Nothing wrong at all with my current car, thought that it might be a good time to jump into something different. The McLaren 12c/650s are compelling options to try the "supercar" experience (cue further discussions on whether it is a supercar or not, but practically it's the fastest thing out there ...at the moment... has a top notch heritage and seems to have great engineering to boot).

However, thinking a bit more about Aston Martin and was thinking whether I'd kick myself in 9 months time when the new car is released. It's not much of a leap to think that the DB9 replacement will be right up there with more BHP (say around the current Vanquish levels) with gearbox and electronics to match: thinking about things like improved engine mgt, launch control/traction control which I would think are more valuable to Aston's performance stats than pure BHP as evidenced in the latest Vanquish's stats improvement over the previous model. Hopefully this is where the tie up with Mercedes will prove the most decisive. If it maintains the DB9 character and beauty, then it will be a winner. Heck I wouldn't complain if they stuck a couple of turbos on the v12 and have the NA v12 as the 'base' model! Why not, everyone else has gone and stuck turbos on!

The replacement to the Vantage, with commensurately less weight, should be quite something else! I've not heard any Vantage owners complaining about a lack of performance, so the new ones should be quite exciting.

Just thoughts...but, as ever, remaining optimistic!
