Mercedes C-Class Coupe spy shots

No AMG just yet, but a rather appealing coupe in prospect nonetheless

Short of the entirely bonkers Black Series, the previous Mercedes C-Class Coupe lacked a bit of visual drama. It wasn't ugly by any stretch but it didn't particularly excite as coupes probably should. On small wheels too the expanse of metal above the wheelarch was all the more noticeable.

Mini S-Class coupe? Great idea!
Mini S-Class coupe? Great idea!
Fortunately it would appear those issues have been addressed with the upcoming model. These are the clearest images yet of the next C-Class Coupe and they reveal a much more attractive car. As with the C-Class saloon, the style clearly emulates the larger S-Class; fine for the four-door but far more successful as a coupe. Furthermore, it will surely impress C-Class Coupe owners much more that their car looks like an S-Class than those in the opposing position!

Expect the same range of engines as found in the saloon, from C200 to C350e with the usual roster of diesels too. Given how broad the Audi A5 and BMW 4 Series ranges are we can assume Mercedes will have a rival for each variant. This will surely extend to an AMG 63 version and hopefully the C450 AMG Sport also - the first verdicts on that suggest a coupe would be a worthwhile addition. It would line up conveniently against the S5 and 435i also...

The C-Class Coupe isn't expected until 2016 and there hasn't yet been a Mercedes concept that very, very closely previews the real thing. Perhaps that will be at Frankfurt. More details as they arrive!

It's probably going to look like st just like the rest of the rear ends seen from MB lately. CLA, CLS, SL, C class all look weak to me. The R230 SL looked right, after that, pure downhill!

Think this is going to look really good. Wasn't sure the saloon looked that great but as said this looks like a mini S coupe. Having had the current/old Coupe and a E class coupe already, looking forward to trying one of these next year. Think they are going to have to update the E coupe pretty soon once this is out if they are going to sell any more of them along side this.

Meh, I thought the old (current) one looked/looks good, one of the few recent Mercedes that looked like a Mercedes ought to - solid, mature and sophisticated. The new one possibly has a slightly racier profile but the front end styling in particular is awful. Why have they gone for the ubiquitous 'melted in the middle' look? In my opinion that look only suits a M&S chocolate pudding.

On the plus side, anything with frameless side windows earns a bonus point from me.

The current C Class and the current ('old shape') C Class Coupe are both great looking cars so this ought to be fantastic!

I thought the previous C class coupe (and saloon) were great looking cars, the new ones are just horrible though. They look like they prototyped them in chocolate then left them out in the sun frown.

Modern Mercedes are just too vulgar looking for me. "As flash as a rat with a gold tooth", springs to mind. Still, that's the market the cars are now aimed at - it is very different to the past.

Every time I see a new C-Class rear end, I wonder why they went with the lights from a Peugeot 308 CC.

Me too. Much prefer the understated stuff from the pre Chrysler era, the Bruno Sacco cars.

Or even earlier. I'm sure I can't afford a W111 coupe rebuilt and mechanically updated by these people -

But I would be happy if I could.

I certainly wouldn't call that understated! hehe

I don't see modern Mercs as being any better or worse looking compared to their predecessors than any other marque really, which is to say that almost all modern cars are blingy mis-proportioned lumps. smile

Can't disagree with that. Almost everything coming out now has massive chunky details, no finesse. It's like everything is a scaled up Fisher Price toy.

I don't get Mercedes, they seem even worse than BMW in having about a thousand models. What's the benefit of this one over a CLA?
