Formula D GT86: Time For (late) Tea?

Cosworth will make your '86 a bit quicker - here's what a NASCAR V8 can do!

The Internet is full of GT86/BRZ engine mods and swaps, from simple turbos to full Supra transplants. This is the the most exciting so far though. Easily.

It's a GT86 with a 750hp 5.8-litre NASCAR engine. Conveniently enough the engine is from Toyota Racing Developments so it's even kept in the family. The car was built a couple of years ago for the Japanese Formula D series and it is - as you would hope - hilariously sideways.

That, combined with the outrageous noise and proper development mule look, makes this a very cool GT86. It's a nicely shot film too, with the proviso that you will have to read some subtitles.

Enjoy!

There's something about starting a car with "start ya b-" and having flames coming from the intake, then fitting the air filter and closing the bonnet... that just seems to right. Makes me think of old F1 where it was all a bit ridiculously macho and show-off-y.

I do like how Formula D restricts cars by allowing heavier cars to have wider tyres, and not by power. It allows some ridiculous machinery that's overkill for any other situation (this has ~750hp and 265 rears) because wheelspin is definitely not something to minimise.

Speedhunters article on it.
