Am I the first here to chance the CUBE knock-off? The design has expired on these, so apparently fair game...

It owes me £165.53 landed, including the bronze bush.

Got it off ebay.com.au, apparently the CUBE one is the one to have.

Should go on tomorrow...would be on already if that stupid rubber boot were easier to remove!

I've only driven ~200 metres so a bit early for impressions...other than:

  • sod of a job, and I was expecting the shifter to have proper bolts on the OE assembly, not bloody cap heads...and getting the stops right is a bugger because you can't get a spanner on the adjuster bolts so it's finger-tight, loctite, and pray
  • crap instructions, included o-rings were nothing like big enough to go under the shifter mech, so I reused the old rubber gasket (which looked fine) - not sure if the o-rings are meant to go inside the mechanism, but I didn't take it apart (assume I wasn't meant to...)
  • the gate seems very narrow, hard to know if I'm in 5th or reverse when stationary (thankfully there's the beep and reversing camera to tell me if it's reverse...)
  • centring could be a bit better, not sure if that's also true of the GMM - springs might be a bit weak. Might be tempted to remove altogether if they prove to be crap (like the new Hinson shifter)
Did feel good though (for the ~10 gear changes I've done...)! I've still got to mod the white rubber boot (need a new one really), I'll make it removable from the top. stty bit of design that.

Just put a few miles on it...feels very good (not shifted in full anger yet), much better than stock.

There's a weirdness in the feel in it sort of notches into the left channel (i.e., going for 1st or 2nd), and doesn't spring back to centre from there. It does return from the right. Do the GMMs do this? Maybe I should have packed the replacement bushing in grease...the plastic one that came out seemed barely lubricated though, so I sort of neglected to think about it.

The 5th/reverse confusion was probably just you don't get reverse unless you also depress the clutch...been a long day.

So I've heard!

Here's a more informed review than mine.
