My neighbours cat has taken to sitting on the roof of my S3. Paw prints on boot and bonnet are annoying but the real problems are a couple of scratches on the paint where it has struggled to get up the slippery bonnet and some claw marks in the fabric on the hard panel of the roof.

I've got some cat repellent spray. What's the collective view on putting it on the hood - is it likely to harm the fabric, colouring, water proofer, etc?

Cheers,
L'rs

I once had a cat doing this to one of my cars so I hosed it off and chucked water at it when ever I had the opportunity and surprisingly it got the message within a week or so.

p.s. no cats were harmed in the training of that cat.

You can get cat repellent spray from local pet stores. Can be used to stop cats clawing furniture etc, but wouldn't know if it would stain the hood of the car, how long it would work for outside etc.

You could try something like Jeyes fluid around the car just to deter them from coming near in the first place. But again, not sure how long this would last when it rains etc.

Water training sounds like the best plan if you have the time to lay in wait. A water pistol would probably do the trick, as long as it doesn't hurt or soak the poor thing.

While they do't like it I don't think cats get harmed by a soaking.

Stick a black bin liner across the hood, trap it either side with the door windows to hold it in place, then put the kitty deterrent on top of it smile

Thanks for the suggestions thumbup

Trying to catch it with a hosepipe would be ideal but I rarely see the censored thing on my car, it's mainly there at night I think. An audio alarm sounds like a good idea (no pun intended!) but my wife has a dog so I (apparently) need to be considerate of that.

Perhaps I could get an alarm for use at night and at other times spray some repellent on a bin liner which sits on top of the trellis and barbed wire so the censored thing doesn't know it's there until it stands on it evil

I'll let you know how I get on wink

I had the same problem with paw prints on the bonnet and roof.
A PestBye fixed to the ceiling and angled to cover the garage door worked for me.

Had the same problem, paw prints all over car every time I came to use it. Mine is in a barn open 1 side, since the better weather I have started leaving the roof off and he/she seems to stay off the rest of car.Found a half eaten bird under it last time I took it out though!

Hi Longers,
The best protection for the roof material is a Leven Car Hood Cover, tailored for the S Series. It's perfect for all weathers as well.

As for the problem about how to deal with your neighbour's pussy:
The best way to keep the cat off your car may be a lobster pot with some tasty cat treats inside placed adjacent to the car.
And a super-soaker of course!

Glen, when I saw you'd replied I was expecting you to have said "it's an S Series so the roof shouldn't be on"... hehe

Already got a Leven hood cover but that doesn't stop the cat climbing up the bonnet which being slippery has caused it to dig its claws in and leave some scratches mad At least the cover protects the fabric on the roof.

That looks great - adjustable coverage will mean I can use it without affecting my wife's dog in the house, as long as I remember to turn it off when I go to work in the morning so it's walkies are not affected!!

Thanks for the tip aide thumbup

Super soaker (good for long range sniper attacks) or a bucket of water and they will learn. I used to have lots of wet pussy in my house yikes
