Hi

I fitted a new AP Clutch around September last year.

It's probably covered 1000 miles.

Went for a spin lastnight and after an enthusiastic launch from standstill the clutch has started juddering.

It's only when pulling off in 1st from stopped and is fine otherwise, same bite and feel etc.

Have I knackered it?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Wouldn't have thought so unless they are made of cheese. Try a hard slip the other way so get up some speed in 3rd about 5000 rpm. Clutch in throttle off then release clutch sharply.

I cant tell you why this works but it does. Can work to cure a slipping clutch also.

It's an AP unit so if it hasn't developed a fault then it should be of pretty good quality.

I see what you mean though, it did burn a bit at the time so there's probably a deposit on the flywheel.

I guess trying in the opposite direction makes sense.

Wil give it a try, thanks

Thanks scerbera,

I woke up this morning with a potential gearbox out job in the back of my mind.

A nice drive north this afternoon, took your advice, and it's back to normal.

Believe me, it puts being pi$$ed off about cosmetic things in perspective!

Thanks man

Very interested to read this .. I fitted a new AP to a customer car and it juddered shortly after the customer had it back. I've got the car back in and just had the gearbox out again and found nothing really to account for it, so it's gone back together again after another clean up of the flywheel. If it still judders I will certainly be trying this suggestion on road test! Fingers crossed.. taking gearboxes out isn't one of my favourite pass-times especially when I can't charge for it !

Hmmm mine Judders a bit. Suspect it's either the RP clutch or the lightened fly wheel. I can clean it up with aggressive clutch use but it soon returns in traffic.

After being let loose on an old runway last my clutch did just the same. In fact the smell and heat from the bell housing was rather worrying. After that it used to judder when hot so edged up changing it. The friction plates were worn and glazed but after reading the advice above I'm sure they would have lasted a while longer. Shame the slave cylinder seals went and I changed the whole thing
