Imagine that sinking feeling of finding out the car you've just bought had played a major role n a murder/rape eek

"As a buyer, I would have liked to have known. I suppose anything you buy, you can't really know the history - but that's quite a major history, isn't it?"

He planned to tell his wife about the car on the quiet, but would make sure his grandchildren didn't know, he said. His daughter wanted to buy the car off him, he added, and he would tell her about it too.

I wonder how many cars used for terrible crimes are actually still on the road? As far as dark pasts go I don't think they come darker than this one...

Nothing too dramatic but I received an early hours 'home visit' from the boys in blue back in 2006. They never got as far as knocking (or kicking in?) my door as my dog had heard noise and was barking so I went out to investigate (thankfully without picking up anything to defend myself with!). My old pickup had been involved in a 'gun crime' in London - never did find out exactly what. I'd actually part exchanged the truck towards a van at a main dealer so the paperwork had gone wrong somewhere along the lines.

Around 15 years ago a guy in his 30's hanged himself in his garage near where we lived. I wonder if the people that have lived in that house since know.

Most recent series of CSI they've had a couple of story lines based around 'death cars' one was an ex cereal killers car another was one a famous mobster was assassinated in.
I wonder if there would potentially be a premium on any of these sorts of vehicles in real life

Have any of you guys been one the Money Saving Expert motoring forums recently. Over there, they think that buying an ex hire car is the worst of the worse!

It's still around, it lives in Northamptonshire somewhere. If you look on YouTube at Danny Dyers Deadliest men with Bernard O'Mahonney it is in that. One of the people in the background owns it. Rumour has it, when the murders happened there was finance owning on it, so the finance company sold it in auction.

I bought a car a few years ago that has a very dark past. I driving home and the alternator light came on. I kept driving as i was on a unlit country lane. The car cut out shortly after and i was stranded.

It was very dark indeed....but its all in the last now.

I was offered a Porsche with a pretty grim past a few years ago but I didn't want anything to do with it. I'm fairly pragmatic about all these things-I don't believe in jinxes or bad luck or anything-but I simply thought I wouldn't be able to look at the car without thinking about all the crap that was associated with it.

Pretty sad story all round.

I'm lead to believe that in the UK anything contaminated with blood etc would be written off as Cat A/B but I can't remember where I got that information from confused

Isn't Jimmy Saville's camper Range Rover still around? IIRC a guy bought it as an investment just before all the truth about JS came out.

I was once in a garage where the owner showed me a 1970s Maserati he had at the back of the workshop.

He asked me what was unusual about it. It was easy. Right hand drive but US spec with orange lights etc.

As I was sitting in the drivers seat he told me it had been ordered by an American Pimp who wanted RHD so he could chat to his girls more easily.

He was later shot dead in the car.

It had found its way to the UK because it was RHD.

What happened to Princess Diana's S-Class? last I heard it was in a container in the UK as evidence for the inquest. It must still exist.

President Kennedy's car was put back into service I think. It got given a roof and was retired from use I guess. In the 1970s.

And bigger stuff involved in tragedies? The 7/7 tube train and bus? I know the loco involved in the Hatfield and Selby crashes got given a new number and is still in service.

I'm pretty certain that wouldn't have found its way back onto the roads...
