Promoted content: Audi RS3 'born restless' part 5

New Audi-sponsored vid sees the RS3 venture off road again. A long way off road...

Now this is extreme! From Hindhead to Denmark for the latest Audi RS3 vid, where the road literally runs into the sea. Like the very best Scandinavian dramas, there are barren landscapes, sleepy villages and fierce coastal settings too.

Put that together with a 'Speedboat' video title and it's easy to see how there's water splash galore, slippery sand oversteer and a, er, speedboat. Sort of. The RS3 appears to cope fairly well with its aquatic adventure, even if we wouldn't directly recommend it for your new £40K hot hatch.

This is the final part of the series from Audi. Hope you enjoy the video, the previous installments are available below.

Promoted: Audi RS3 Born Restless, Part 5

Unique among its predominantly four-cylinder rivals the RS3's 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine is a proper stand-out feature. Thankfully it doesn't need any help from the speaker system to make its presence felt either, that distinctive bassy tone a constant reminder of Audi's rallying heritage and the era of the Quattro. Nor do you have to be going at silly speeds to enjoy it either, the RS3's character accessible whether flat out on track as we were previously or just pottering about at road speeds. Obviously a tunnel just helps exaggerate that and the mile and a bit length of the one beneath the Devil's Punchbowl outside Hindhead seemed the perfect venue to make some five-cylinder music.

Enjoy and scroll down below for previous videos in the Audi sponsored 'Born Restless' RS3 series.

Promoted: Audi RS3 Born Restless, Part 4

As you will be aware Audi is so excited about its new RS3 it's enlisted PH to promote a series of six videos, the third of which is now live and can be seen here. In it Audi designer Stephan Fahr-Becker explains what inspired the exterior look, how it communicates Quattro tradition and the engineering under the skin and how the cars he's owned have influenced his work. Suffice to say, our man is a proper car nut and anyone who runs a Clio V6 as a daily driver is alright in our book!

See the exclusive interview here and catch up on the previous two videos below. Stay tuned for further instalments!

Promoted: Audi RS3 Born Restless, Part 3

Eyebrows were raised on the RS3 launch when Audi promised the car would do sideways excitement as well as Quattro four-wheel driven stability. And then they stopped anyone from switching the ESP off to find out of this was true. No matter – there were no such restrictions in place when we decided to put the RS3 on track at Anglesey Circuit and see if it really could live up to the claim of “steering without understeering”. You may be pleasantly surprised at the results!

See below for the first instalment in our series of promoted RS3 videos.

Promoted: Audi RS3 Born Restless, Part 2

This is the first of three videos produced by Audi itself - there will be six in total, and we've been given free rein and a fair slice of Audi's marketing budget to do something spectacular for our three. We hope you like the results!

Any chance you could spend some of the budget on a video player that works. I've yet to see one.

Humm... Promoting a car by referencing technology it shares with a car that is over 30 years old. Vorsprung durch Technik.

The RS3 tested in Autocar this week....list price is £40k or so....price as tested was over £51k...

Can you believe Audi have the nerve to charge extra for sat-nav even on an RS3.

Now, how much were the lease deals on that Golf R?

If you're having trouble viewing the vid can you let us know what you're attempting to play it on please - thanks! And if the embed code doesn't work try the hyperlink at the end of the story, which takes you direct to the PHTV page.

Thanks!

Better yet, the whole thing is obviously computer generated because the RS3 couldn't drive on such road.
Embarrassing doesn't even begin to describe this farce!

Maybe they were worried that the stunt driver would have disabled the stability control without written permission from Audi.

It's quite decent I think. If I'd watched it at the cinema on the big screen with full sound system it would have been better still. Sometimes it's all to easy for car enthusiasts to lose the bigger picture of what an advertisement is trying to achieve. This showed the product, its heritage and technology and the emotion that goes with it.

For those who don't like it, fine, but say why, Audi might appreciate 'positive' feedback.

Have to AGREE strongly with this. If your going to make a top of the line Halo model, at least chuck some more toys at it to justify the ridiculous price tag. I've had a play over the last few months with the configurators on some allegedly top end machinery and I was shocked that a lot of the time, the spec you get is barely above that of the lowest poverty model. Any of the more useful toys are still a cost option. It's a p*sstake is what it is.

I went on the Audi website today to check out the new R8 and what they had new about it and the site shows this car also off roading

http://www.audi.co.uk/

But it's obviously not even meant to go anywhere near a kerb never mind something more rugged (think of the alloys, think of the alloys )

Unless of course AMG are about to do a 6x6 A45 of course .. scratchchin

But Porsche strip out content for their halo cars.

Anyone seen the Ad where the R8 gives birth to the RS3? Bloody weird chaps. This is much more what I want to see.

I have to say I really want one, and probably will pick one up in a years time.

I though PH was one of the last decent blogs to resist the temptation to get down with the kids and get all Ameristuid.

Promoted content - advert.

Partnered - been paid by with money or in kind

Audi wants you to hear about the new RS3 so much it's enlisted us to promote a series of six videos on PistonHeads

Audi wants to use a well thought of blog to promote and market its new RS3 and they have paid Pistonheads to do so.

Come on PH, drop the Ameristupid.

We are not stupid PH so how about nbeing honest and candid, it doesn't hurt.

If that's not absolutely clear with the 'promoted' prefix to the title and the nature of the arrangement...

...isn't explicit in the body copy then we've failed in our duty.

But for the avoidance of doubt, yes, Audi has paid for some RS3 videos to be promoted on PistonHeads. And if some of that hearty marketing budget goes towards keeping the site going then hopefully that's acceptable. We would not - could not - pretend there are any blurred lines between editorial and paid-for content. And if there's a discussion to have on the matter, well, we have the platform for that!

Cheers,

Dan

Ah yes but they usually replace them with bits that are lighter (read more expensive) and other trick suspension or go faster bits plus they are supposed to be lighter hardcore models

Something like an RS3 isn't a lightweight special, it's meant to be a technofest halo model so should have some decent toys chucked in as a matter of course. It's just disappointing to pay £40k, look through the configurator and still have pages and pages of options to tick which can add at least another 50% to the list price. I'm not saying it should have every option ticked but you should at least get some of it for free like Sat Nav, premium sound, premium leather etc i.e. there shouldn't really be a case where an Audi 1.6 can have a better spec than an RS3 for half the price seeing as the RS3 won't cost twice as much to build.

This isn't just aimed at Audi though, I am equally unimpressed by the standard kit you get on AMG or M sport models too.
