Just got my fourth nail in a tyre in 7 months. At £105 per tyre it's getting expensive and frustrating.

I've looked online to see if I can get something from the council but all I see is stuff on potholes.

Anyone tried this or know if anything can be done? I feel like I'll just have to suck it up though.

The council don't sweep the roads and as much as I try to keep away from the curbs we have to get close when doing manouvers.

Had a similar run a few years ago. At the time I was frequenting B&Q a lot and think I was picking if nails then. I've been a bit particular where I park there now after seeing a few trade van men opening the van back door allowing the nails that were scattered in the back to end up in the car park. Always look around before parking/ driving off and not unusual to find a few sharpies waiting on the unsuspecting. Worth a thought.

Why on earth would try and get something from the council?

4 tyres is pure bad luck, i've never picked up a nail in 20 years of driving my car, i have in my van but then i frequent worksites etc.

You could have picked them up anywhere, road, car parks driveways etc

Local tyre fitters charge £7.50 to repair them and have never failed so far.

It's also time to replace your tyre repair place (sales outlet).

Plug them, patch them, or else believe the scaremongering and don't complain.

You must be a mug. £105 you get a new tyre and they get a part worn tyre to sell.

In case you didn't look at my profile, I'm a driving instructor, with a 7 month old corsa. I wanted to keep good rubber on it but that'll have to change I feel which is a shame. The council should sweep the roads but don't so there's a dereliction of duty. Looks like I'll need to suck it up.

I was hoping someone here had pursued it further. Looks like I'll have to live with £50 ditch finders..

Well that depends where the puncture is on the tyre.

I'm a bit bemused as to why it would be the council's fault.

Spent £25 quid getting a puncture repaired at Kwikfit ( I know, I know, but I was desperate).

Got home and realised I was covered for free puncture repairs with my service plan at the Ford garage next door to Kwikfit who no doubt do all the repairs for them anyway.

Doh!

Actually it does not. What it does dictate is what sort of repair you may use. Most 'unrepairable' punctures are repairable legally, but not using the simple plug method that tyre fitting shops employ.

Google "hot vulcanised repair". Unfortunately youll see me talking about it a lot on PH in the results, but youll find companies who can make these more involved repairs too. Tread and sidewall - no problem, providing that the cords aren't cut.

Youll need to leave the tyres overnight too, as theyre cooked in an autoclave.

Further point for other members: please do not say that I am wrong simply because you are ignorant - it'd be novel for PH but you could try STFUing and educating yourself.

Interesting, thanks. (Apart from your final paragraph.... confused )

Quick Google throws some interesting view points.

Final paragraph not directed at you in any way, sorry.

If you look at the other threads that Google brings up you'll see how much rubbish has been posted by people who don't really know what they're talking about. It'd be nice to avoid that.

How much does a hot vulcanised repair typically cost?
