Looking for what options I have to watch TV in the bedroom without an aerial. So far the only option I can think is to use a laptop and watch it through TV catchup and Sky Go. Is that likely to get buffering a lot?

Any other options with minimal cost as its likely not to be used (its for the Mrs)

I would go for a NowTV box. Plug it into the HDMI port and away you go. Gives all catch up stuff and with an Entertainment pass, you get SKY One , SKY Atlantic and all the SKY catch up stuff. PC world doing the box for £15.99 with a 3 month pass included

You can also buy additional voucher passes for NowTV on ebay.

And they can be had for £9.99 at Argos (and a few other places) due to a new box being out this summer:

Or just buy a small indoor aerial for about £10 and watch freeview if your signal is ok.

We use an Amazon fire box in our spare room if you have an amazon prime account. And a decent internet connection. And decent Wifi reach. And don't mind not watching live streaming TV.

I haven't given a very good suggestion have I...

Fire TV (Amazon prime, netflix, iplayer, tv catchup(ish))
Kodi (xmbc) tvcatchup, iplayer/itv/c4 + other dodgy sources
Now TV (locked to sky but possible to jailbreak I think as it's a Roku underneath).
Apple TV (mirroring an ipad/phone if you have one)
Roku? (not sure if there is a tv catchup type app for this) lots of apps.

Plenty of options but they will all need a fair internet connection and a TV app of some kind and how geeky/hands on you want to be.

Do you want to watch live TV? If you're happy watching stuff from your own digital collection, just a Smart TV with wireless would be good. Catch up services available and if you got a NAS drive you could use PLEX to access movies/TV shows in digital format

I had the same issue.

Don't piss about with ste indoor aerials or boosters, they rarely work. Especially if you live in the sticks like me.

I went for a NowTV box (plus 6 months free entertainment pass in the box with it), and a Chromecast (with another 3 month NTV top up included in the bundle). Total cost was IRO 55 quid for the hardware and 9 months NowTV access, and I've never looked back. The NowTV box even comes with an HDMI cable and batteries for the (very usable) remote.

I went for a Google Chromecast.

Works very well with the Netflix app and you can use the "Allcast" app to stream videos from your phone.

Kodi on a Fire TV stick is great, takes a bit of tinkering to set it up but loads of resources out there to help.

This with bells on. I binned my Chromecast and stuck a FireTV Stick in its place, loaded up TVMC (modded Kodi, search youtube for 'how-tos'), and never looked back smile

PS3 has Netflix, BBCiplayer (does live now), BBCsport, 4od, SkyTV , Demand 5, NowTV, etc etc Plus use the browser to d/l shows from your favourite tv link host..only downside is flashplayer very dated so web streaming a bit hit or miss

I put a custom build on the one in the kitchen, all the usual stuff for streaming films/sports etc plus live TV channels with an EPG. The other half is a bit reluctant to use it as she's not that au fait with the interface but I think it's great. I've got TVMC on the one in the front room with some add ons I've put on there myself as I only really use it for sports and the odd film but thinking of sticking the same build on it as the one in the kitchen and installing the add ons I use onto it. Comes with a load of add ons and repos already installed.

Has anyone got any experience with the TV front ends and related back Ends?
I've got a few PC's lying around and a quad feed sat dish so was going to get a card and use one of the xbmc front ends.
