Mad Mike and his RX-7: Time for Tea?

Drifting star Mike Whiddett is at you-know-where this weekend - here's what we have to look forward to!

Lord March doesn't come across as the powersliding kind of chap, but new for the Festival of Speed this year is a dedicated 'Drift' category. Sliding past the flint wall? What could possibly go wrong there?

It's a another exciting addition to the weekend line-up, one this video should whet the appetite for. OK, so Goodwood is not a 10km course in the deserted New Zealand countryside. But the RX-7 you see here and it's driver 'Mad' Mike Whiddett will be just the same; as the video demonstrates, both are fairly handy at the art of oversteer.

The car - known as Madbul - makes 534hp at the wheels and has about the biggest handbrake you've ever seen. It isn't subtle, but what part of this sport has ever been subtle? It looks hilarious fun, and is surely another must-see this weekend. A hearty salute to you Mad Mike!

Watch the video here.

No comments that video is amazing I confess I have a kiwi friend so saw it some time ago. Drifting is big out there and they have a whole lot of space to play with.

The sound from the rotary is amazing! His latest car is a twin turbo quad rotor mx5 with well over 1000hp, speedhunters have some good posts about it.

Very impressive, always amazed at drifter skills of almost but not quite crashing.

I really struggle with drifting sections of racing games even with a feedback wheel and pedals because in reality you need the feedback and feel in the seat of your pants.

Don't get this drift sport thingy. It's as homoerotic and pointless as bodybuilding. I like powersliding as much as the next car guy, It's just can be called sports discipline.

That sounds amazing and is evocative of my late teens early 20s when I used to stand in the forests and watch the RX3 and RX7s flying past in the hands of John Woolf and Rod Millen.

Do you also think gymnastics, diving and ice skating are also not sports?
