the OEM murcielago roadster soft-top is actually a very solid piece of engineering , and when correctly in place, gives an almost hardtop level of comfort in my opinion.
It is not completely watertight , and the factory state a limit of 160km/h with their soft-top in situ.
I think that these 2 limitations are acceptable , bearing in mind that the car was originally designed in the tradition of the grand Italian barchetta , and the soft-top was a late after-thought

the 2 major disadvantages of the OEM soft-top are that it is such a bother to take on and off , and also that it takes up so much of the luggage space when not on the car

I have spent the last few months trying to come up with a solution to these issues , and happily stumbled upon Randy McPherson of Autotrim North Miami
they had already been doing a soft-top for the murcie roadster for years now, but the soft-top was only suitable for use when the car was stationary which again was a huge limitation

we discussed the matter on the phone , and on e-mail , and drawings went back and forth across the atlantic , and finally we came up with some modifications to the existing pattern , which has been a great success

the new top has a different removable windscreen rubber strip to channel rainwater to the sides and away from the cockpit , and much more secure front anchorage

the top can be taken on and off in about 3 minutes , and takes up about 1/10th of the luggage space if that, and it can also be easily put on by one person

it also looks pretty sleek , with a sloping rear profile , like the Porsche speedsters of the late 1980's

working with Randy was a joy , as he was just as enthused about this project as I was
the quality of workmanship was superb----the material used is the same as on the Bentley Azure---and it was great and refreshing to deal with someone who was true to his word in describing the product that he was selling
as to be expected this was not cheap , but this was a product that was accurately built to a given description and a given specification
the finished product fit the car like the proverbial glove

the roadster was photographed at the beaulieu national motor museum last Wednesday , to become their
photographic reference example, and I will get some photos uploaded shortly

if you have a car that needs a bespoke soft-top , or any other auto trimming , then Randy is your man

Their were at least 2 companies (one in Switzerland) offering hard top panels as a substitute for the soft top.

I believe the limitation on the speed with the soft top, was it will stay on above that speed!
