This has popped up. I've got a OBD reader on order to check and reset, but is there any problem with my driving the car at length in the meantime?

quite common apparently. No issue driving it.
The more you drive it, and may clear on its own in the next couple of days

I recently got the "Emissions System Service Required" warning message in my DB9, looked it up on PH and hoped it would self-correct. It hadn't, so took it to my local main dealer service department. They kindly diagnosed it while I waited, following which I was told it was a P2800 error code, which could be a result of any of the following, amongst others;

- Low battery charge
- Not pressing one of the PRND buttons in the centre, or hard enough
- Doing lots of short manoeuvres, like a 7-point turn

Cost of rectifying the above indiscretions - nearly £120. I must go on a button-pressing course.

Really useful kit - Wifi Vgate OBD2 ICAR2
Between £17-40 depending where you go. links to your iPhone (they do Bluetooth aswell) and using "Dashcommand" app you can sort anything even while on the move. I leave mine plugged in permanently.

If that error comes up on the dash, its 'usually' a 02 sensor thats gone. Obviously, best to check with OBD reader or any good garage with similar reader. I got a replacement NGK sensor from ebay for a reasonable price.

Definitely check with OBD reader before spending money on repairs. I've had this message once which was cleared with reader. Not seen it since.

My first thought when I get any fault message is to charge up the battery. With a fully charged battery, most things sort themselves out.
I agree with syncii, I got the message within 1 hour and 30 miles of picking the car up from the dealer. There were some other battery related issues, but after a good drive (battery charge) and an OBD read it has gone away, still early days yet, if it returns then it may be worth further investigation.

The joys of ownership,

Sean

Often an O2 sensor. Get a cheap OBD reader, read the code, write it down and reset. When/if it comes on again next week/month do the same

if you get the same code repeatedly it usually indicates which sensor it is, they are about £80 on ebay and your local garage can fit easy enough in under an hour

OK, so this arrived this morning...

Car Scanner Memo Scan Trouble Code Reader Tester Diagnostic U480 CAN OBD-II UK

...but keeps giving me the 'Failed Linking' error after running the initial connection protocols. As it was recommended by another PH'er I figured it would work with my 08 V8VR. Faulty OBD unit? (Made in China after all)

try the other OBD II port, there are 2 close to each other, one is the body and wont report anything.....easy mistake to make before you write off the reader

Mine gave me that error when I first plugged it in. Then realised I needed the ignition on and it scanned fine.

My error code was slow responding O2 sensor. Reset it and haven't seen it again in 5 months.

Moveover,
I got the same reader. It's the right hand one of the two sockets.
I needed the ignition on and it showed 'no codes'. I cleared 'no codes' and the message remained. I was about to give up, unplugged it and the message went away.

Keep trying.
