Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer: PoTW

This is the London-based car, so where better to take some photos?

There will be a more in-depth PH Meets with Singer Vehicle Design in due course but, just to whet the appetite, here's a new desktop wallpaper from its recent UK flying visit.

Just a couple of days after its Festival of Speed debut, Singer exhibited the 'London' Coupe and the new 'Montreal' Targa to a few jammy journalists. What was intended as a brief visit lasted a lot longer as the coversation turned to custom valved Ohlins dampers, Mahle pistons and 993 RS front brakes. As you will probably have surmised from the PH previous on Singer, the cars are simply exquisite up close.

But that's for a more detailed feature soon. For now enjoy an iconic car in the finest capital city in the world.

Singer really really know what they are doing. That company is just going to get bigger and bigger.

A lovely picture of a blurry bollard. The Singer looks great, but there must be some pictures where it looks like the primary object in the image, no?

That's a fair point, car does look lovely in the cropped image.

Well I'll be.

I read about another car by Singer in my financial times sized retro pullout paper this morning.

Agree on the picture though! Oh well, well done Singer!

Love the smartphone shot, and it sure is amazingly restored/optimised but boy oh boy do you pay for the privilege!

Yes, one does pay indeed.

The pricing is eye-watering, but it's not outrageous. As we all know, it's essentially a hand-built car with an artisan interior to match.

You can spend almost as much on one of the usual supercars. Some, even more.

The Singer doesn't qualify as a supercar, but -- given rarity, fastidious craftsmanship and a particular sense of occasion -- I reckon they've got their pricing spot-on.

But we can all do this, to some extent and budget, to any car we like. I spent 25 years working in sales in London for BMW, Porsche, Jaguar, Alfa and Jeep. I learnt that if a customer wants "different" it costs but can be done. Since leaving that world behind me I can't leave the personalisation bit behind so every car I've had since then has had different wheels, suspension, interior, bodywork. Mostly simplifying not adding to. No body kits, shaved is a modern term I would use, but ending up with a car that is obvious of its ancestry but of today's vehicle artistry. Looking to many as the original but to the knowledgeable acceptable. It must not be a case of "why didn't they leave it alone".
