I believe that they now no longer teach metalwork in some schools as to dangerous ! So the next generation would not have a clue how to make them. Sad but may well be true. We'll done any how. Richard

I sometimes wish I was younger, but when I read things like that, I am glad I was raised in more enlightened times.
Metalwork was my favourite lesson.

I was talking to the owner of an Engineering company the other day and commented that people that can make things with their hands and can work out complex solutions to problems are the people that should be making the big bucks, not some spotty oik with half a ton of "product" in his hair who wears skinny jeans and has autotune correct his cat like wailings on some cack talent show.

When I am King, people like Philpott will be chuffin millionaires!

/Rant over.

Joe, I've been learning at the knee of the master, don't worry your position is safe, I can only aspire to get to your levels mate.

I marvel at the sight of you in full flow, like a proud lion patrolling his domain, only your domain is a French hotel with a bar devoid of beer with only small coinage for change. Fantastique!

Metal work? It's design technology guys...get with the times hehe

I made a coaster at after school club using a ban saw...that's about all I can remember.

Despite my lack of 'proper education' though - I still managed to pass the ultimate test - removal of a prop shaft without taking the gearbox or diff out of a TVR S. Once you've passed that exam, you're ready for anything wink

Very good Andrew, but if you did metalwork instead of design technology you could have made a spare one of those in your lunch hour wink

It certainly looked like you enjoyed yourself, I thought it was just me that got in that state.

An "off-cut" of 5mm mild steel plate bought for a few pounds from a local steel stockholders.

(same thickness as the "Kit Car" brackets I bought for the non-vented discs set up)

ETA..... and no, I don't fancy making another pair but plenty of metal left over if you want some! smile

Well not a lot to see but they fit smile

Needed a couple of washers to centralize caliper over the disc, just as the others did. Cutting the brackets from thicker plate would have the same effect.

Made up some one piece flexi's to go from chassis to caliper to get rid of the silly little rigid pipe on the trailing arm.

wasn't raining when I started, flippin' was by the time I'd finished, bleeding can wait till tomorrow irked

What impresses me is that you did it in your drive on just a couple of axle stands thumbup

Not sure how much use a "ban saw" is though laugh we had a banD saw in the workshop at school and I think most kids left with all their fingers. We also had a fully working forge and a sand casting pit. Those were the days! Unfortunately the most dangerous thing kids get to play with these days is a sharpened pencil.
