So far the worst single bill has been £1,300 for a massive aircon overhaul. However I'm about to get Hartech to do their 'ultimate' rebuild...

I, and many others I'm sure, would be interested to know what the costs of this might be.

If I remember correctly £3400 , big service , clutch , RMs , condensors ...luckily some bits covered on OPC warrenty and I just stumped up £1700 ..big enough as it was ten years ago and car was seven years old and approx 60k miles. My mate recently ( last year) £9k on 53 plate 3.6 ..again clutch , condensors & rads , alternator & discs n pads brake pipes and some exhaust work...all at OPC. Whooeeeee

Why use an OPC for basics like clutch and brakes on a 12 year old car , could have halved the labour bill and some going to an Indy ???

Some OPCs will match Indy rates for older cars.

I've had a couple of BIG ones...

A couple of years ago spent £4k on a gearbox/diff rebuild + MOT + big service

Spent £3k on a service end of April (plugs, coils, brakes, main belt, 2 rears, and a load of other bits and bobs). Then the alternator went 3 weeks later and that was another £400. And the AOS went last week - haven't paid for that yet.

Stuff eventually breaks on a 153k mile car.

£1100 for major service, front brakes and coolant tank.

Even if you spend £10K on one, it's likely to be at least another £10K cheaper than anything air-cooled :-)

£75k was the most mine cost me. Well - thankfully - my sponsors mostly. 996 Cup - one season's racing.

You want to compare this to the running costs of the now perceived perfect 993, bet with their suspension rebuilds etc etc they cost a fair bit more to run

I'm struggling a bit to understand why the £10k engine cost is worthwhile. These cars are worth between 10k-25k. Surely if it goes pop just break it and be quids in????

I don't mean to be disrespectful - I have had two 996's but ur seems crazy to me. They are a bargain to buy but not when throwing at least another 10k into the mix!

I ran a 996 C4 for three years. Apart from servicing all it needed was a set of tyres and a pair of Dansk silencers

You are a lucky man! To be fair, mine has cost around £1500pa exc fuel, tax & insurance over the last 5yrs, this year it has caught up with me but averaged out it's still less than £2kpa.

£1700 on major service, replacing corroded nuts, seal in a turbo and rear discs brakes. Expecting to sail past that on the next one which will probably include a clutch.
