Gen 2 997 Turbo S questions
Discussion
Can anyone help with the following questions:
1. Were there any specification changes to the Gen 2 997 Turbo S after September 2010?
2. Are there any options which are absolute must haves for resale on these cars? I know the marque well but not this particular model.
3. Would the PDK on a 2010 Turbo S be the same "generation" of PDK as the 2012 PDK on my Cayman R?
4. Are there any known issues to look out for on these cars?
Thank you.

1. Not sure, but don't think so.
2. Car came very highly specced as standard. Only other stuff on top is personalisation.
Seen quite a few cars have deleted the standard centre lock Spyder wheels and reverted to 5 bolt Turbo wheels. I think this may be seen as less desirable going forward.
3. Don't know.
4. Not heard of any. Uses a fraction of the oil of my old 996 Turbo. Check rear discs well. They'll have taken a hammering if car has been tracked.

1. Doubt it, only produced for 2 years
2. Has all the big items as standard (PCCB, RS Spyder wheels, PDK, adaptive seats, cornering light, PTV, Sport Chrono Pack with active engine mounts) so it is really interior bits you are choosing over
Must haves:
Telephone BT module
Universal audio interface
Heated seats
Desirable:
Park assist
Cruise
Personal stuff I like:
Exterior painted package - side sills and front/rear spoiler lip (especially on bright/light colour cars)
Extra leather bits, especially the rear centre console and lid
I might be in minority here (especially as they were an expensive option on the standard turbo) but I prefer the
turbo 2 wheels over the overly fussy RS spyders with centre locks
I really liked the two tone black leather / cream alcantara seats in a car I sat in (I think only a turbo S option)
Rear wiper - so glad my turbo doesn't have this, ruins the lines IMO
Frippery I wouldn't say no to:
Ventilated seats
Digital TV unit
Crested seats

IIRC, was that not because at the time the Turbo S came out there was a recall/issue with the centrelocks on the 7.2 GT3 that they first appeared on?Seen quite a few cars have deleted the standard centre lock Spyder wheels and reverted to 5 bolt Turbo wheels. I'm not entirely sure how 'resolved' that is and whether centrelock or 5-bolt would be the desired option, but others here may know better.

They released a service bulletin and new centre lock nut which no longer has the 500nm stamped on it. Iirc it is now recommend for 600 or 650nm. I'm not entirely sure how 'resolved' that is and whether centrelock or 5-bolt would be the desired option, but others here may know better.
All cars should have been covered by the recall.

Thank you very much (especially Adam's full response).
I am looking at one tomorrow so I go fully equipped!
It is at an independent dealer who is offering a 12 month insurance backed warranty (quite limited). What is involved in putting the car onto a Porsche Approved Warranty for 12 months.
Thank you.

Re your warranty question, my understanding is that if buying a car outside of the original Manufacturer Guarantee period, and either buying outside of any Extended Warranty period or buying within an Extended Warranty period but from a trade rather than private seller, you have to wait 90 days after taking ownership before you can get the 111 point check performed to have a standalone Porsche warranty put on.
When I bought my 997.2RS outside of the network I went through this. I had Porsche check the car before I bought it, and then had to rely on the seller's warranty for the initial 3 month period, and then put the Porsche warranty on. I had a problem with the rads and air conditioning condenser to deal with in the meantime, although in my case the selling dealer and my OPC were both very helpful in getting to a satisfactory outcome.
If I've misinterpreted the situation or process then perhaps someone can correct/clarify...
Thanks for the enthusiastic comments:

I have agreed that the dealer will put the car through the necessary to obtain the 1 year Porsche Warranty although it appears that may take 90 days to complete.
