Lotus Exige 360 Cup

Limited run of uprated 360hp Exige Cups goes on sale - move quickly if you want one though!

We liked the Lotus Exige Cup a lot when we drove it. So news there's a new one with a bit more power and some minor visual tweaks is something to file under 'cheering'. Called the Exige 360 Cup it has - surprise! - an extra 10hp to take peak output to 360hp, gained by fitting what Lotus describes as "freer flowing induction and a sports exhaust system." The supercharged 3.5-litre Toyota V6 already sounded pretty good but with those mods should be even more expressive, this kind of power in a car with a kerbweight of just 1,130kg (around 45kg less than a standard V6 Exige) the kind of numbers we can all rally behind.

Looks the part, goes like it too thankfully

Distinct from the standard car, Exige Cups are officially Lotus Motorsport products and therefore eligible to race in Lotus Cup race series across the globe with minimal upgrades. As it stands the car gets a pukka track aero pack, two-way adjustable dampers, new grooved brake discs and now features a revised front access panel and louvred tailgate. The Motorsport chassis also features added adjustment in the suspension hardpoints over and above what you can tweak on the road car and is prepped and ready for competition equipment like a full cage, fire extinguisher system and remote electrical cut-out if you're serious about taking it racing.

Inevitable comparisons will be made with the Cayman GT4 but, in reality, this is an 'RS' level product properly stripped back and prepared for the track. Beyond the option of red Alcantara trim for the cabin the extras sheet is notably lacking in 'lifestyle' upgrades and instead offers stuff like Ohlins dampers, FIA carbon seats, removable steering wheel and adjustable anti-roll bars.

Just 50 will be built and given the £62,995 (including VAT) pricetag we'd have to say you'll have to move fast to secure one. Just four colours are offered - silver and metallic grey, black or white - set against matt black front panel, roof and engine hatch. New red Motorsport wheels set the whole package off rather nicely, working on the basis if you're choosing to buy a car that drives like it took a wrong turn leaving the paddock it should probably look the part too.

We all are waiting for the charged cooled >400bhp one now.
To risky buying this one. and NO toxic green or Chrome Orange !!

IMO it should have also inc the R Aero kit, that would set it apart a bit rather than red wheels !!

Never buy a limited edition Lotus if you intend to keep it for more than 5 mins. The regular version might still be supported 10 years down the line but if the limited ver has any oddities that go wrong - and let's face it, they will - you're screwed.

Not different enough. Wait for the 400 or save the cash and get the cheaper one.

Second hand V6s (especially the cups) are not that much cheaper and you can probably get the 0% 50:50 finance deal on this one, which you can't get used.

Also, who knows when or if the 400 is actually going to arrive and how much of a premium it will be to the current model (I expect the best part of two years and 10k respectively) The current car isn't exactly slow and you can wait forever and a day for the next version to arrive...

Terrific update and no more expensive than the current V6 Cup.

While not usually a fan of red wheels, I think the metallic red they've used looks great.

The release of this car makes me think the Exige '400' is further away than we first thought. Looking more like 2017 than 2016 now.

I know first hand how great these cars are on road and especially track. Good to see Lotus doing more Motorsport cars. Unlike some other makes it really is their actual Motorsport department who does the work on these cars.

Think there is only one problem with this: I don't have the necessary funds. Nice bit of kit that!

I'm sure it's amazing to drive, but it sure isn't a looker. It looks like a really cheap training shoe. Thankfully you don't have to look at this view from the driver's seat.

Yes, if that free flowing induction or exhaust go wrong what would you do.......?

It is the same as any other v6 what part couldn't you fix then?

Given the standard weight, the 45kg reductiom is quite substantial. Where does the saving come from?

Wow, a special level of b0ll0cks in that post fella.

It's a V6 Cup; you cannot lose money.

What exactly do you think will go wrong, based on the fact you don't know what you're talking about?

This - trying way too hard. Call it Lewis Hamilton syndrome, perhaps?
