New Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe teased

Vid confirms 510hp twin-turbo V8, plenty of noise and lots of tyre smoke for new C63 Coupe

Last week Mercedes confirmed its new C-Class Coupe as one of the big hitters launching in a few weeks at the Frankfurt show. The looks certainly didn’t win everyone over and the fact it was announced with a range of four-cylinder petrols and diesels only underlined a lingering sense of disappointment.

Hopefully this will help. Because as we know there will also be an AMG version, which Mercedes is teasing here with this little video clip. It doesn’t show much, to be fair. But it confirms what we could probably have guessed, namely that it’ll have a twin-turbo V8 engine we’ll assume to be the same 4.0-litre unit as the saloon and estate versions. Whether it’ll be offered in both 476hp standard and 510hp ‘S’ tune we’ll have to see – the car in the vid is badged as an S so we’ll safely assume the full beans version will be available from launch. What else? Well, the car would appear to sound pretty fruity and be very willing to light up its rear tyres. Again, stuff we could probably have safely assumed would be high on the agenda.

Will some AMG muscle help fill out the standard C-Class Coupe’s lines? The jump-cuts make that hard to ascertain but expect more in the coming days. One thing’s for certain though  - the BMW M4 and Lexus RC F are going to have to accept the new AMG is going to leave them looking seriously outgunned in the raw power stakes. Whether it’s the complete package will remain to be seen.

Vid here.

That the under bonnet stuff is awesome is a given, but I hope they have a wider rear track to given the rear some muscle.

It's funny that the estate is the best looking car of the bunch, when it really shouldn't be.

Hard to get anything from the vid - hopefully it will look at lot better than the saloon, which I'm really not a fan of.

Either way, the problem with Mercedes is not the cars, it's the extremely poor dealerships (or at least the ones I've tried) - wouldn't give them a penny of my money.

Appreciating design is inevitably a matter of personal taste but I agree. The C63 saloon and coupé revisions have been detrimental to the looks of the cars for a while now, and I happen to think the coupé has suffered most.

I suppose these things are very personal but for me the estate is almost always the best looking variant in this sector with the two-door being the worst.

Agreed about the 2-d but the 4-door is way ahead for me smile all down to personal taste.

Curiously I've thought the same with the M3 since the E36 pre-Evo (whenever there was a 4-d)

I loved my last C63 Coupe, but I'm looking at the saloon next. Drove the C63-S at the weekend and it was amazing, a big step up in all the right areas over the last car with the exception of the engine.

However, my tiny gripe with the engine is that it's not as loud as the 6.2 V8, but it still sounds epic and a million times better than the dull engine in the M3/M4.

Frame by frame it does look like it has a wider rear track and some fearing to the rear arches, but it's not got the presence of the 2014 coupe. Having read the last thread all I can see is laguna coupe now, in the same way that every time I see an i8 rear end all I can see is that it's excreting a 911.

Well, I suppose as turbo engines go, the M177 isn't the dullest, but what's going to be worth more by the middle of this century, the M177-engined range or the M156s? I argue firmly for the latter. M-B styling just gets worse and worse all the time too. Makes the amorphous banana stuff like the W203 look handsome.

This!! I tried to buy a C63 - I tried very hard actually, but the dealerships were a disgrace. I contacted 11 dealerships in total, all within a 2 hour drive from home and not a single one was even half good. I saw cars which hadn't been washed, cars with bald tyres, cars with flat batteries, cars with a windscreen price £2k more than advertised online, cars without the optional extras as advertised, cars covered in scratches, kerbed wheels etc. I was looking at cars no more than 2 years old with a max of 15k miles so not exactly "old snotters"...or so I thought.

I ended up buying an M3 in the end, almost out of spite. It was a great shame because I thought the C63 was actually the better car (noice and torque for sure!) but the dealer support is absolutely shocking. It was a very disappointing experience which has left a bitter taste. If it was one or maybe two dealers you'd think "ok, they're having a bad day" but 11? Come on....they just don't care.

Hmm, such a shame they have turned the handsome previous coupe into this.

It looks like Mercedes are entering their equivalent to the Bangle beemer era.

Very disappointing.

Agreed, especially with this current iteration of the C Series, my word is the rear of the saloon an ugly sight - truly awful.

Sounds like I'm not the only one then, I ended up with a 420d at the time, but I've just picked up an M4 due to change in job - didn't even contemplate the C63 (despite the many positives it has) as the ownership experience goes further than the metal on the drive.

From those pics I'm glad I've stuck with the BMW 😀
