Compared to the other models in the Porsche line up?

I know they are cracking cars, but even the base model is a lot more than say a Macan Turbo or a decent Cayenne.

Do you think its Porsche tax for the sake of it?

Also, does anyone else think the Cayenne and Macan handle better than the Panamera? Even though they are not lighter and the COG is higher, they seem to complete a lap of the local roundabout faster than the Panamera I had for a few days.

That said I'd still take a Panamera over a Macan Turbo any day, those cars have some sort of gravitational pull!

Not sure about the price but I urge you to spend longer in one , I think you will agree a cayenne ( a car I love and own ) and a macan are completely out handled my a panamera .
Panamera turbo s I had the use of in Florida was completely insane

Like the original Cayenne, I think the Panamera will become a much improved car, and much more desirable, with its second generation design - due, I believe in 2016/17.

Hopefully it will shed its slightly 'ugly duckling' styling and look a bit more compact. And, the Panamera Tourer would be a big success if Porsche ever built it

Porsche pricing is a dark art and Porsche have proved over and over again that they fully understand the markets they are in.

Its got little to do with the cost of bringing a car to market, its way cleverer than that. A boxster with a roof? Yeh, that will be more. 991 GT3 priced low? Yep, and for good reason.

The Pan is priced at a level to hit the right market.

I think we will see the one reason for the Panamera pricing at the IAA.
The Pajun or whatever it will be called, a smaller EV version of the Panamera positioned to compete with the Tesla Model S.

Would have considered on if it was not for the Audi A8.
Big family bus, looks good in black with the 20 inch wheels and led lights, and with the 4.2 tdi v8 it out trumps the v6 in the Panamera.
Plus I let someone pay £82k for mine before I snapped it up 14 months old from Audi approved for £35k!
No brainer, even if I look like an accountant in it!

Yes, annoying that they appear to be holding used values well too. They obviously have strong appeal. If they were not selling well used prices would tumble.

I suspect they are filling a slot for folks who are not attracted to the usual Porsche configuration and require four doors and the other qualities the Panamera provides..

Still the only Porsche I would like to own but I have other priorities including new teeth ... rolleyessmile

There's a rumour going round that they are rubbish. That will drop prices. I'm off to start that rumour right now ... wink

Well, I've had two cayennes and two panameras,;
I can say with absolute certainty that the Panamera will out handle the Cayenne
For the record, I had a first gen Cayenne turbo, and a second gen hybrid, 4S Panamera then a modified Turbo Panamera.
The turbo panamera I tracked and ran at Vmax events - an amazing car IMHO

The lack of need for 4 seats now enabled me to trade it in for a 991 GT3 smile

Can't understand your veiw on this, as a man who has owned a few Audis?
Alloy bodied four wheel drive luxo barge with a stnking V8 that does 32mpg average, great air suspension that you can alter to suit your mood and bullet proof build quality (2 years this month and 30,000 miles, not one issue or squeek).

Looked at a Panamera as the missus loves the look of them on the road.
The new one i saw in the showroom had two broken bits of interior trim on a car people were just looking at. Just made me imagine what my kids could do to it!

I think Porsche are carefull with supply and keep the cars ( so far) in the dealer loop to keep residuals high.
Once a few older leggy cars make it out there I suspect it will pull the artificially high prices down.

Big Porsche fan here but does the Panamera Turbo offer much more than an F10 M5 for example, or are they chalk and cheese?

Don't know about how they drive but the Pan is in a different class for image, style, interior, prestige, if you care about those things. M5 is very very understated and could be a 520d from some angles. That could be a benefit to some but if I was spending that sort of money the Pan would feel a lot more special, kind of like comparing a Z4 to a Boxster for me.

Some interesting comments. I suspect the Macan etc that was beating the Panamera on my local roads may have just been down to poor tyres/wrong PSI etc, I didnt bother to check!

A Panamera is leagues ahead of an M5, you can't even compare them.

Qu someone posting a video of an M5 beating a Turbo down a runway, as if its some daily occurrence.
