MotoGP Silverstone: PH2

Even the rain can't ruin a fantastic Brit MotoGP round

The weather was always going to play a crucial role in the British MotoGP round at Silverstone and, sure enough, despite forming up on the grid in dry conditions, it wasn't long until the rain fell and caused chaos. With every rider pulling into the pits after the warm up lap, race control were forced to pull out the red flags and allow riders to start the race again with wet tyres instead of slicks.

Rossi shone in the wet conditions...

With the race underway in very tricky conditions, there was one rider with a huge smile on his face. Rossi loves the wet and Lorenzo generally hates it, so it was no surprise that Vale hit the front with Marquez behind once he had worked out the condition of the track. A few laps later it looked like a two horse race as Rossi and Marc set the pace.

Behind them, Lorenzo's day was getting even worse as he was being given a hard time by a brace of Ducatis and the remaining Repsol Honda. But at least he wasn't nerfed off by his teammate like Cal! Sixth place would put a serious dent in Lorenzo's championship charge, but at least he would score points.

With eight laps to go, Marc hit the floor handing the win to Rossi, more vital points to Lorenzo and all but ending his chances of retaining his title. It may have been a bit cold and wet on the grandstands, but you have to say it was a corker of a Silverstone MotoGP thanks to the weather. And the sun always shines when Rossi wins.

The big winner at Silverstone when it came to the championship was Rossi, but you have to say Lorenzo did an amazing job of damage limitation to finish fourth. Scott Redding rode brilliantly to finish sixth and fair play to Petrucci who made the most of his chance. The Silverstone losers? Miller must have had a very frosty reception from his team (and Cal) and Marquez will be kicking himself.

Moto2 and despite starting from pole position, Brit Sam Lowes suffered a poor start and dropped down the order. A strong mid race saw him recover to finish sixth, but he had no chance of catching race winner Zarco in tricky conditions and with wet tyres that were ripped to shreds on a drying track.

It was extremely wet for Moto3, making Danny Kent's performance all the mor exceptional. In monsoon conditions that saw many of the top riders hit the deck, Danny kept his head and rode a brilliant race to take a clear win and extend his championship lead. Absolute perfection from the young Brit who is in the form of his life.

PH please can you not show the MotoGP winner in the article header. I do not have BT sport and watch the ITV4 highlights, usually on catch up instead. I'm sure you can appreciate showing the winner somewhat spoils the race for me and others.
