Silverstone Auctions at Salon Prive sale

An auction with interesting cars that aren't Porsches (!)

Alright, so there are some Porsches in Silverstone Auction's Salon Prive sale this weekend. But we'll come to those later because, well, every auction story seems to feature Porsche quite heavily.

Cheaper than a lot of the other Astons...
Cheaper than a lot of the other Astons...
From our own fine island, this gorgeous Elan Sprint has an excellent history and what appears a reasonable estimate of £35-£40,000. There's a nice E-Type and early XK120 also, but the real gems are from Aston Martin. This DB6 Vantage Volante for example, one of just 29 in right-hand drive drop-top Vantages. In California Sage Green with tan leather and only five owners, it's quite magnificent actually. Fresh from a service at Desmond Smail, it goes to auction with a £825,000-£925,000. Lovely.

Fancy something a little racier? This beautiful DB4 Vantage has been rebuilt over the past decade 'with the emphasis on maximizing and enhancing the driving experience'. There's a new manual gearbox, Koni dampers and uprated brakes, plus an estimate of £675-775,000. And for a much racier, much newer Aston at the Salon Prive sale, a V12 Vantage GT3 will also go under the hammer. A car with N24, Blancpain, Britcar and Dubai 24-Hour provenance, its estimate is £170-£190,000. And its nickname is Bilstein Billie, for obvious reasons...

Now when the discussion moves to Italy people will inevitably look to the 430 Scuderia, the Dino and the Lancia Aurelia. But look, there's a manual 456 GT for sale. Yes, it's left-hand drive and the service history isn't superb but it's estimated at less than £40K. Hmm... See also this fabulous UK Ferrari 512BB, a 355 GTS manual without a reserve and a very rare right-hand drive Diablo SV. Blu Scuro with Snowcorn hide may not be the wildest Lambo colours but it looks stunning from here. There's a sports exhaust too... The estimate is £140-£160,000, which looks reasonable given its status as the last manual-only Lamborghini Superveloce.

Finally, we probably should just mention the Porsches. They are pretty special, after all. There's a 997 4.0 RS and GT2 RS plus this incredible 964 Turbo S 'Leichtbau' with a suitably burly estimate of £390-£420,000. Naturally there's a 2.7 RS with an even bigger guide price too. But perhaps most interestingly of all is a 1986 911 Supersport with just 743km (461 miles) recorded. How much more 80s can you get than Grand Prix White with Can-Can Red leather?!

The auction begins at 1800h tomorrow and will surely generate huge amounts of interest given the lots offered. Results story to follow next week!

It depends on the provenance. Has it ever completed the Mille Miglia?

Pretty sure the 964 T and 2.7RS were on JZM's web site for some time... the 964 at £495k and the RS at c.£600k.

The BB looks nice in blue.

Isn't this french labelling of these events a bit, well, inelegant? Is this auction going to be held in France? Promoted exclusively to the French?

Is the Diablo the same one that was On Clarksons Car Years and then crashed by one of the production team?
