Racing in Japan: Pic Of The Week

Gran Turismo fantasies made real as PH drives the new MX-5 on its motorsport debut at Tsukuba Circuit

PH was lucky enough to compete at the 25th running of the Mazda Roadster 4-Hour Media Endurance Race last year, this milestone also coinciding with the global debut of the all-new ND MX-5 (as we know it). This year was arguably even more significant, being the motorsport debut of the car we saw unveiled last year. Amazingly we were invited back too, driving alongside former F1 and Le Mans star Ukyo Katayama as part of the NHK Samurai Wheels team.

All we had to do was keep calm not burn too much fuel and all would be fine. You can read how well that went here but here for your desktop delight is a rather lovely dusk shot of the Samurai Wheels/PistonHeads MX-5 on Tsukuba's evocative tarmac. Looks like something straight out of Gran Turismo but it was very much for real!

This is a really stupid question about night-time racing- do you run with headlights full on all the time? Do you dip them when approaching a slower car (from behind obviously? Or are the light set to not dazzle the driver in front by filling his mirrors with light?

Any comments about my stupidity accepted.

They run on full beam all the time, dip them when there's oncoming traffic.

So shining in the mirrors of the car in front is not regarded as a problem?
