Didn't sell when it was at Maranello recently. Both the Enzo and the MC12 are owned by the same well known collector.
Not surprised. Have you ever been approached by the sales people at Maranello? I certainly haven't and been there umpteen times. It's not obvious why you would register a car, and put another owner on the logbook, if you were never going to drive it....
In any case, asking price and clearing price are two different things. I had an interesting conversation with one of the top UK dealers of the most expensive used Ferraris and other "supercars". I commented on how his advertised prices seemed regularly to be 10-20% higher than other dealers'.
He said that, because of the high valuations these days, he can no longer afford to buy most of his stock. Almost all of it is SOR.
Because it is SOR, he explained, he is obliged to put on a car whatever asking price the owner dictates. He acknowledged that, almost always, what an owner advertises as asking price is above the market, sometimes very much so.
He also pointed out that often an owner knows that he has no chance of getting close to the asking price, nor does he even hope to make a sale. Rather, the motive often is merely to create the impression that one's collection is worth more than it really is.
So ultimately a bit of market inflation by the owner themselves? By saying it's worth £2m, it could drag the entire Enzo market up a bit with it? Interesting.
Not that I am planning buying an Enzo any time soon (lets never say 'never', ha ha!), but I would also assume from that, that a genuine buyer could speak to Romans/XYZ dealer and if the car is SOR actually bid down the owner much more than if the dealer had actually bought the car into stock. If Romans had paid £2m for it and are trying for as much of the £150k as they can for profit, you have £X you can work with. However, if this is SOR and the owner paid £750k for the car 5 years ago, you are not bidding into money they are trying to recover - merely profit from value increase.
Regardless, I cannot see that particular car going for anything like the £2.15m it's advertised for. That just seems crazy money - in a world where car prices are going a bit crazy lately.

Forget the price, what I can never understand is why people buy cars like this then never drive them, what the hell is the point!!!!!!
What pleasure do you get out of the ownership experience apart being able to boast that you have the lowest mileage Enzo, it just seems very sad to me or am I completely missing something here, it would not be the first time?

For some a car is like a painting just to be admired and kept perfect i can understand that!

For me, it's both.
When I'm too old and decrepit to drive my Countach, I'll try and screw it to the wall of the home that my kids have sent me to and just look at it..........
Countach is different: if going by looks, it's probably the most outrageous "production" car of all time, worthy of being mounted on a wall. When I'm too old and decrepit to drive my Countach, I'll try and screw it to the wall of the home that my kids have sent me to and just look at it..........
