Jaguar XJR: Spotted

Bring back the green supersaloons!

Nowadays the phrase 'green cars' has unfortunate connotations of efficiency, worthy planet saving and dreary performance. But with this XJR (and a few others) it's time to celebrate cars that are more literally green; it's a great colour that should be seen more often!

More interesting than black, right?
More interesting than black, right?
Now the XJR is an excellent car, but we'll come to that. The appreciation of green was properly highlighted yesterday - following that Viper Green 911 on Monday - with this stunning M6 Gran Coupe, discovered during one of those aimless but worryingly time consuming roams through the classifieds. Look at it! So often seen in black or blue or silver, the combination of Peridot Green and brown leather works so well.

But the M6 is £100K for 560hp. The XJR is £56K for 550hp. Even through the comparison is skewed - the Jag has been used more and would have been cheaper to start with - it's plain to see the XJR still represents incredible value.

It too looks excellent in green, this a more traditional BRG. The XJ no longer appears as wildly futuristic as it did but the shape still seems to suit a more old fashioned Jaguar colour. Interestingly, it's the only green XJR in the classifieds and there are only nine regular XJs as well. By comparison there are currently 16 red XJs available.

The interior is proving a little more divisive, at least in the PH office. Some admire the boldness of the scarlet leather, others are less sure and would prefer a tan. It'll be rare at least!

This is more interesting than black too!

Whatever, the XJR also deserves its place here as the limo for people that still want to drive. It was clear from the 7 Series launch that, even since the late 2000s when the XJ came out, tastes in luxury have changed; driving really isn't a priority, the focus so much more on the rear seat experience. How far will the next XJ follow suit? No doubt more autonomous tech will feature, and Jaguar's press conference at Frankfurt proudly stated how "customers crave connectivity". Don't forget fast Jaguars under the SVO banner will all be four-wheel drive in future too.

Before we're too morose about the future though, let's take a minute to appreciate this XJR. Yes, it won't be the most commodious limo and it will of course continue to depreciate, but there remains something deeply charming about the largely forgotten big Jag. Especially in green.

And just finally, a few more green beauties to support the point. See the Ferrari Daytona, the Lotus Evora 400 and the Audi RS4. Superb!

£3.22 per mile depreciation. Fuel costs almost irrelevant at that rate! Roll on the £10k X351 XJR.

The original post seems to have slipped into a doppelgänger thread, so I'll repost here (and apologies) ...

Here's my Type R - Jaguar Racing Green supposedly (although it goes by other names) and I love it smile

Interior's not bad either (hold off all the pipe and slipper comments please!)

Someone was intrigued by the black panels, so here's another shot:

Yes, I've not seen that arrangement before. Front and rear or front only?

Green cars tend to be somewhat rare, although there are quite a few Jaguar S-Types around in green. I've had two.

I now have a Jaguar XF 5.0 V8 (not the R). This particular model is not well known (it was not publicised at all and available to special order) and mine is green too. Could be the only green car of this model. Green other XF models seem to be extremely rare as well.

Throughout - I wasn't sure at first, but it's grown on me. The whole 400BHP fist in a velvet glove thing is nice too smile

Oxford green with tan looks great on M3/M5 bmws though a rare choice. Lots of Bentley and Astons in that combination, sits well with some walnut trim.

The XJR is a sublime way to get about, I've had the fortune of driving one. Something deeply satisfying about it, with a wedge more character than some German offerings. Looks much more elegant on the ouside, too.

As for the M6:

Chris Harris was getting giddy over the M6 a few months back on Twitter, it was for sale in Dick Lovett at the time though. Claimed it would be the exact spec he would have ordered for himself. Must admit the interior with the extra leather trinkets is really quite special.

I happened across this at the start of the week and suffered instant major-league want. Dark green and tan is always a great combination - all the better because it's almost never available as standard and therefore has rarity value too. Pity the price tag is ree-diculous.

As for other green monsters, my father ran this for 4 years from new. The green looked awesome:

I think I'll be in a minority here then;
The XJ at the top of the article just looks wrong to me, the green is fine but there's too much going on, chrome lower grille surround and radiator surround, then spangly alloys and red callipers, and, in my eyes, a searingly-awful colour combination inside.
That alone would account for the depreciation for me, as I'd suggest that despite people on here liking it, it will struggle to find a buyer compared to a more usual colour combination.
If I had the money to buy it (and I dont) I'd want it to be £10k cheaper just to offset the problems I'd have selling it on in a couple of years.
The car itself is, as suggested, a sublime way to get around fast compared to other manufacturers, so I'll temper my comments above by saying if it was a choice of this actual car or one of a set of its German cousins, the Jag would get my vote (along with one of those comedy glasses/nose/ moustache combos to disguise myself.....
