Mopar at SEMA 2015

All-wheel drive Challenger, a 'Deep Stage 3' Charger and, er, a couple of Fiat 500s too

Well if lightweight MX-5s aren't really your idea of a good SEMA concept, the Mopar line up should be much more to your taste. Big wheels, big power and, well, big cars too.

Let's begin with the biggest, the Dodge Ram Rebel X. Truck yeah and so on. It's designed to climb every mountain and ford every stream off road, hence the 35-inch tyres on 17-inch wheels. Oh, and the 5.7-litre HEMI with a cold air intake. It's painted 'dark Copper' and looks bloomin' brilliant.

Of course it's painted Destroyer Grey...

Of just slightly more relevance is the all-wheel drive Dodge Challenger GT. Quicker for drag races, right? It's described as a "year-round muscle car that lets you have your cake and eat it too". From here it looks one very delicious cake; Destroyer Grey, Header Orange and black are the colours outside, with a widebody kit and 20-inch wheels ramping up the visual aggression yet further.

A new 'Scat Pack 3' Performance kit is fitted to the Challenger too, building on packs 1 and 2 with new ported heads, high-flow manifolds, high-flow cats and plenty more to deliver "up to 75 more horsepower and an additional 44lb ft of torque." With a standard R/T rated at 372hp, this would put a Scat Packed car in the region of 450hp...

Very good, especially as the Scat Pack 3 is used in the Charger Deep Stage 3 as well. Its styling aims to evoke the late 60s Charger, painted in 'Silver Bullet' with black stripes, a Mopar body kit and 22-inch dark bronze wheels. Again, it looks superb in a fairly intimidating way.

Mopar has turned its hand to many FCA cars at SEMA, including a Dodge Dart, Chrysler 300 and a few vans too. But we'll finish with the pair of Fiat 500X crossovers actually. Why? Because they look cool, that's why. Sadly there are no modified V8s or widebody kits but the 500X Mobe (the white one) and Chicane (in blue) do have a few interesting tweaks up their exhaust pipes.

Wanna off-road?

The Chicane is powered by the 2.4-litre 'Tigershark' engine with a nine-speed auto and a new exhaust. Inside over 100 Mopar accessories have jazzed things up, because there's no such thing as too much customisation with small crossovers.

While the Chicane is designed to "buzz through urban areas" on its 20-inch wheels, the Mobe is so lifestyle-oriented it's named after a kite-surfing trick. So there's a roof rack, slide rails, cargo trays and an emergency first aid kit, just in case that "one more for YouTube" doesn't quite go to plan...

Yes, these Mopar vehicles may not be the most relevant concepts you will see all year, but it would be a very dull automotive world without aftermarket tuning. Long live the SEMA silliness!
