As has been eluded too in a few threads over the last few months, Jack Valiant and I are going a small jaunt across the pond. In the TVRs!

The starting point will be San Fransisco before heading down the west coast, across to Texas and then back to San via Las Vegas. It will be a mix of driving and doing stuff - like a NASCAR Experience. It'll average out about 150-miles a day.

We will be looking to head out on or around the 11th of May and returning 4-weeks later.

Others are welcome. So if you're interested please consider the following;

This isn't going to be cheap. At the moment we're budgeting for around £12k (per car) for the 4-weeks in total.

If four or more cars go then we can get a very hefty discount on shipping the cars.

The beauty of the USA is that moving cars about the country is pretty easy so people can come for just part of the trip if they prefer.

There is one deadline. We need to book the cars on the ships on or before the 6th of January. So definative commitment will be required by then.

Insurance for the trip will be, imo, vital. The car cover will need to cover interstate travel, breakdown and collision waiver.

We're planning on heading to areas and spending time doing things. We're going to visit the garages you see on Discovery - West Coast Customs, Gas Monkey etc... - so you may be filmed. If you're not comfortable with this just let us know.

Chris and I will use the Xmas break to flesh out an itinerary. We'll be booking in Jan.

Id love to know how you get on especially with the shipping, and insurance etc. I've been looking at this for a while. Taking my Chim and my mates 911 coast to coast.

just needs them both to be finished first. We flew over to la a few years ago to buy the 911 as a rolling shell so would be cool to take it back for a trip

Envious or what? Should be fantastic, good luck with it all.
Done a couple of road trips USA, Highway 1 from San Fransisco to San Diego, and another from Chicago the Santa Monica [route 66] but in a hired Mustang convertible, which was cool but not as cool as own TVR, respect bow I'm looking forward to hearing about it so you must be beside yourselves bounce

May be worth contacting the TVR car Club North America.
I'll come back with some contact info.

Mrs BC and I would love to do this but asking at this late stage and requiring a commitment by 6 January is unrealistic for us.

I think you are going to struggle with insurance. I have been trying to sort insurance to drive a car across the States and can't find any company that will do this. American insurers won't cover someone that in non resident and has no US licence and UK insurers will cover in Europe but not USA.

If you do find a company that will insure you please let me know as I plan doing coast to coast in 2017.

Good luck!

We did a road trip last year and we are planning to go again next year but not in the tvr that sound great.
The one thing I find strange with your trip is the amount of miles a day, 150 will only take a couple of hours and with a country and roads as big as america you wont see a great deal either.
We covered in two weeks 2600 miles,
I know that will be a lot in a tvr but if you are going to spend all that money on the trip you will want to get the most out of it.
We are flying into las vagas on the second of June I would love to know your root we might be close to each other.

Evening folks. Apologies for the lack of info. Had a wall collapse just before Christmas and there has been more work than anticipated here in Kuwait.

Chris has a source for insurance, happy to post details here for those interested. Mileage is averaged for the whole trip so some days will be loads, some will be none.

Will be booking the cars next week so just need to contact Chris - not checked email for a week!

Happy New Year peoples.

If you know of someone that can provide insurance for a non USA resident to drive a car in the states I would be very interested. I had planned to buy a classic muscle car and drive it across the States but couldn't find anyone to insure me as I am UK resident. Cheers

Hi MK1fan,

I noted your road trip plans and wonder if your trip down the California Coast would be passing through my town:
Camarillo. Camarillo is about 50 minutes south of Santa Barbara and 1 hour north of Los Angeles along the coast with FRWY 101 passing right through. The drive down the California Coast MUST be done on the 101 and from San Francisco it is about a 5 hour trip, so you can enjoy a few stops along the way.

For reference, our drive to Laguna Seca (between Monterey & Salinas) is 4 hours.

It would great fun to meet & "speak" TVR with fellow owners as we've never met another TVR-Guy here in Car-Crazy-California. Brother & I are finishing up our restoration/conversion of a '71 2500 to Ford V8 "Tuscan" and should have it drivable soon.

So When do you plan to execute that grand Road Trip? Would let me know if a meet is possible!!

Cheers,

Hi Terry, will let you know.

Project meeting this morning and looks like we're going to trim this to 2-weeks for a couple of reasons - one being to join the S-Club Tour at the end of May biggrin

We're still trying to ressolve the insurance issue. All is easy except for covering the State of Californication. Will hopefully get a solution in the next 7-days.

If solved then booking the car ferry, flights and visas will follow quickily.
