LoonR1 - a tribute
Discussion
I don't want this thread to get into a moderation rant or even a discussion - but as LoonR1 was generally one of the most helpful and knowledgeable posters on all matters insurance in SP&L, I thought it would help the wider membership understand his point of view, and to thank him for the advice over the years. He can't post but he will probably be watching (thanks to all of the secret black boxes the insurance industry has been installing everywhere to monitor us)
His advice always stood alongside Breadvan's for me. Honest, direct, cynical, sometimes abrasive but 99% of the time accurate (which is a key attribute in SP&L)
SP&L and PH is a weaker place for his now permanent ban. But this isn't an appeal to have it overturned.
But I will observe that it seems that all of the actual experts choose no longer to post, leaving a swathe of ill informed and often dangerous advice from unqualified people - which is more offensive to me than anything LoonR1 ever said. It would make more sense for PH to focus on the quality of the forum advisors than their volume, but that seems be out of vogue.
Mods, lock this if you wish, but I would like this post to remain (and also to save lots of questions of "ask Loon, where is he?")
I'd like to express my thanks to LoonR1's - for his advice and support for this forum over the years. Not being a fan of just 2 wheels, and whilst I don't judge, I understand that he was also "a friend of the bikers"
Below posted with his permission… I have taken the liberty of redacting the names of the posters that he named, so as to stay within the spirit of the rules.

If you want the full history then here it is and feel free to post it up, as it's completely factual.
A few days ago I challenged yet another poster about their claimed non-receipt of post, it was the Yellow Box junction thread. Within that thread one or two posters chose to be sarcastic to me and got a response in kind, most notably <redacted> who then chose to call me a tt. I didn't reply in kind to that, instead having a subtle dig at his self confessed pant wetting thread.
A poster called <redacted> decided to encourage other posters to use the report button. I subsequently got banned from the thread. <redacted> didn't. Oh, he's a biker banter regular too.
The following day we got two clearly trolling and made up threads, one about a guy whinging about road tax on his £65000 car that his mate wrote off on Day 1 of ownership. It was clear BS, as were his other threads
The other thread was someone claiming that the police seized an employees car and made him walk two miles up the hard shoulder, again clear BS. The OP even decided to delete his post as it was so obviously bks. There were a load of fairly abusive posts on there, not from me.
I got banned from the thread though as the OP threw a wobbly and then another appeared stating "We have received several complaints about you. You are banned from these forums due to your abrasive posting style. We suggest you find somewhere else to post”
So effectively a few upset posters complain and that's it. They've conveniently ignored the thanks on the insurance threads received over the past umpteen months and the current ones.
So having said that I'm not overly fussed. I do like the truth to be told, I'm less concerned about PH overall, as it's sadly become filled with precious souls who need everyone to agree with them and have never had anyone correct their misguided belief. I will miss the banter in the Biker Banter section, but them will see many of the guys on trackdays and at race meets this year hopefully.

Thanks Loon!
I'm now off to drive my mates' trader brother-in-laws car on my DOC policy for work, and drive it to the Ring (actually a mate is paying me to take him). I'm sure all will be fine. It has no MOT but that will no impact my insurance, I checked! I only have a provisional licence. Innit.

It's a shame he got banned, but he was always unnecessarily abrasive and cynical. As someone who's had a LOT of post go missing after the post office cocked up my redirection, I was always annoyed at Loon's tone whenever someone claimed they hadn't received some document or other. At other times he spoke a lot of truth, so I held my tongue and didn't challenge him. He's entitled to his opinion and I'm entitled to mine. In fact, I find that to be the best policy on any online forum where we really don't know each others' life experiences, credentials and whatnot. Don't get too riled by what someone else says - they may be 9-year-old troll for all you know. It's just as easy to ignore offensive posts, and often that's a better thing to do than getting your knickers in a twist...

I think it was more of the point that it was always used as an excuse followed by a moan that the insurance company didn't have a dedicated team of people on 24 hour shifts trying to phone and email that one person.I don't think anyone actually believes that all post gets delivered just that it was convenient that it was lost each time the policyholder would have needed to act on it and wanted to claim ignorance.
Edit to a smiley as it wasn't meant as dig
^ Agree with that. What the point of trashing the OP in almost every thread?
And can anyone point to any actual useful advice that he posted? Maybe there's the odd snippet, but I can't think of much useful. His responses often seemed designed to manage down policyholders expectations.

As with most cases of naming & shaming there are two sides to the story.
Let's just say our departed friend has a colourful history of forum bans, threads and posts needing to be deleted and spells in the Sin Bin stretching back more than five years. The action isn't just the result of a few recent complaints.
Anyway, the forums are not the place for discussing moderation issues, so I'll leave your "tribute" here.
