So, the Ultima is nearly 3 years old so need to be thinking about first MOT.

Any good or bad experiences with Ultimas getting through MOTs? e.g. common points they get picked up on?

Am in SW London/Surrey area - any recommendations for MOT testers that others have used, or is £27 at my nearest Halfords as good as any?

Take it Halfroauds if you want a chav jumping in and moving it about!!!

Find a garage used to dealing with Ultimas or find a friendly local outfit.

I have a local garage that MOT 6 cars for me and know I want my cars safe but are also sensible. They also know that if they find something that needs fixing, I will fix it straight away.

Thanks. Have emailed a local place that I don't know but are small and family run - I did use another garage for one of my other cars but they have recently gone bust.

Agree - don't want someone wrecking it! Also not sure if all garages will have ramps it will actually get onto.

I was really just checking to see if some MOT testers that are not used to cars like these will fail them for the wrong reasons.

Biggest problem I have had is the amount of garages that have ramps that cant cope.
You need to ask if the ramps are set into the ground so they are flat.

An MOT tester I used to use said he hated testing my car. His reason was that it brought the whole workshop to a standstill and even pulled guys in from the garage next door.

They did the same as we do in our workshop and use wood to transition low cars onto the ramp.

find an mot station with lift set into the ground so ramps are level...not difficult to find.
the main issue with MOT stations is usually bottoming out on the brake rollers depending on what class of brake rollers they have.. especially if you have a splitter fitted.

I can recommend a garage in Oxfordshire, MOTs over a pit and I have never had a problem on the brake rollers. PM me.

Have had a few emails on this so would like to add that the tester has previous experience in building Ultimas, the ramp is in the ground so no access issues, charges £50 but does not test weekends. He is an Ultima fan beer

Many thanks for the offer. Oxfordshire a little way from me. Have found somewhere that sound like they can do it. If I have any problems I may come back to you. If they do a good job I'll let others know on here.

Very happy to report that the GTR has her first MOT and passed with flying colours.

The garage I used were really good - totally flat lifter so no problems there. They let me drive it on and off the lifter and let me have a good look underneath whilst it was up in the air. No mechanic so much as got in the car, let alone drove it.

Anyone around the Surrey/SW London area I can thoroughly recommend them - Walton Bridge Garage. £39 too....

Will be taking my other cars there too from now on.

Yes, once you find a decent garage, stick with it. All my cars, 6 at the last count, have been MoT'd by the same garage for the past 30 years.

I found a good one but he shut up shop, Dammit! I've been to 3 others before I got a good vibe, so I'm doing my MOT on wednesday!

A test station close to me seems to have a high fail rate for 'split' drive shaft gaiters.

Do you think they use a Stanley Knife to help 'check' them???

If anyone is in Surrey - Bentleys Garage @ Brookwood.
All my cars go there now RS6, Ultima etc. Completely honest & trustworthy with everything plus also extremely good mechanics if you want anything done
