That looks awesome! The only issue is the wheezy 4cyl engine...

The elise platform is very small. No matter how nice it looks, it will be about 3/4 scale

GT40s aren't exactly big.

It is a novel way to make your Elise less valuable.

Why would anyone do that to even an Elise let alone a VX.

Kinda thinking this could be an enforced change for VX's ? Someone must start an online petition..

Think you've had reality distorted by the lardy standards of most new stuff.

Wheelbase Elise = 2,300mm, GT40 = 2,413
Width Elise = 1,719 mm, GT40 = 1,778

Seems pretty close to me ....

Agreed. Even an S1 elise looks better and it would completely ruin any car on the elise platform.
Nice way to devalue your car though and be faced with a lovely bill if you get in to an accident.

But how tall is this creation - if it's less than 40" tall it's not a GT40. wink

It depends on what the donor car was - if a VX220 Turbo, it'll be plenty rapid enough

If the height is scaled down proportionally to the wheelbase, it'll be a GT38ish. smile

IMO if they were going to do it at all, they should have made it a full-size clone, building a longer rear-subframe to extend the wheelbase by the required 10cm. That would also have given buyers the option of installing a longitudinal engine.

I think that looks absolutely awesome, and generally I'm not really a fan of these lookalike rebodied classics. It maybe looks a little high compared to the original, but the proportions are great nonetheless (to my eyes anyway)

A great way to breathe some life into a Cat D VX220!

I agree with using up cat D VXs. However to tear up an Elise would be criminal. Mk1 Elise are stunning and need saving.

CatD VX220s are no different to normal ones, usually just a new crashbox installed, so they don't need "using up", plus the fact they are twice as rare as an S1, and many times more than S2.

I assume he meant "cat-D" as opposed to "cat-D repaired".

Not sure why you'd do it to an Elise/VX220 that is in good condition, but you can pretty much write-off these cars with front and rear clam damage these days so maybe an interesting alternative if you fancied buying a crash damaged one from an insurance company.

yes When I did just enough damage to my front clam for it to need replacing rather than repairing, the whole bill came to over £7k and that was without a hire car while it was being fixed.
