Hi all,

Anyone else been invited to this by their OPC? Think it's running for another week. Went on Friday thanks to Porsche Tewkesbury. It was a great day starting with a full English(German) breakfast then had a 30 minute talk with the Porsche engineer responsible for the 991.2 chassis who had flown over from Porsche HQ. We then got to drive Three 991.2 cars. C4s pdk, C2s manual and base C2 pdk. (About 20 mins each car) Imo the car has lost none of its character over the 991 infact I would say it improves in almost every area. The steering is a big improvement (much more feedback) interior/ pcm much improved and the engine has so much more torque than the old car (turbo) One of the cars I drove had the sports exhaust and sounded lovely. Think I may even be temped to place an order!!

If your going or have driven the 991.2 would like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for a great day Porsche.

Yep, going on Monday with the Son in law. Watching the weather as I think dry and sunny might not be happening. Still going in the RS though! Very pleased to have the invite. Cheers Tewkesbury!

Also heading to the PEC on Monday courtesy of Tewkesbury OPC. Taking my daughter along too and she is very excited. I think I will be taking the Mazda though if the weather is anything like it was yesterday!

Waiting for my PEC invite as I already have a C2 on order. Have had both a 991.1 GTS and a 991.2 C2 for a days demo drive, & I'm happy with my choice.

Your thoughts on the differences between the GTS and the .2 and why you went for the .2
Thanks.

Yep, for me personally I preferred the linear power delivery of the .2, seems to be more suited to my driving style/capability. The surge in power higher in the rev range in the GTS(ca 5k rpm?) I found was catching me out, maybe due to the fact I'm coming from a supercharged XKR, which also felt like it had a more linear delivery. Apart from that there wasn't much to choose between the GTS and the .2 other than the in cabin engine noise, which isn't a significant deciding factor for me. Sounds more 'exciting' inside the GTS, but didn't feel I was getting anymore performance compared to the .2 on the road. Probably be different on a track, but I'm not a track day enthusiast.

So nice to meet you and your daughter at Silverstone today. You both looked like you were having a great time together. Sorry I rattled on about my car, ownership has become a bit of a life changing experience. smile

Hi Rob, good to meet you too and to put a face to the name :-). It was very interesting to hear about the Aston experience! With regards to trips out, I will look out for any trips that you arrange! It was certainly a good morning out at the PEC but my daughter is now unhappy with her VW Polo!

Hi James,

Well its a 911 fitted with 2 Turbochargers! You would honestly never know that the engines are force fed other than the ever present surge because of the dramatic increase in torque. Molly has a new Polo Gti fitted with a 1.8 turbo petrol engine, not the fairest of comparisons I know but you can tell that it has a turbo fitted. It suffers lag and there is little point in revving it above 5000rpm. Not so the 911 it thrives on revs. On the figure of eight course I was encouraged to keep the car in first to induce as much slip as possible, the engine revs and revs. As soon as I get in any track situation I do like to pedal along a bit. It must have been at least halfway through our second session that it dawned on me that I was in a turboed 911! They really are that good!

Because of the inclement weather I have slithered around the various tracks at Silverstone being amazed at the level of grip and how good the cars are. Though there is an exception. One car was a manual! Quite why anyone would choose that instead of the PDK is beyond me. Molly's manual Polo shifts better.

Porsche have done a fantastic job with their new Turbo engines. To anyone who is considering purchasing one and still has a little doubt in their minds I strongly suggest a protracted test drive with the inevitable result that any doubts are unfounded.

Will I be buying one? Um no! Not so long as I have my GT3RS - it doesn't have turbos, it has the most amazing atmospheric engine ever. It will not do 30mpg more like 19. It is simply the best car in every respect that I have ever had the good fortune to drive and to own. Thanks Porsche!

First.... Thanks Porsche for a great day out.
Hilary drove to Silverstone so I could get a feel for the .2 cars then drive my NA car home.
Drove the Carrera 4 WD, Carrera and the Carrera S.
So, inside and outside the cars look very similar. I like the re-styled front, not sure on the back of the S with sports exhaust and the black air intake. Centre sports exhaust pipes don't do it for me and not liking the black air intake. Inside was great a nice place to be.
On the track.
Had the S, 4WD, manual first. A cracking car, very fast on the track and kept in 3rd, easy to drive and never went out of shape when pushed. Fantastic levels of grip. Must have overtaken 4 or 5 cars. Easy on the Ice Hill. Won't buy one no caricature or drama....boring but fast.
Next up was the base Carrera with PDK. More caricature ( lost grip with the PASM off a few times ). Rain started and the car performed well but not as fast as the 4WD S or the NA S. Not for me.
Last was the Carrera S with PDK, SE and Sports Chrono. Rain had stopped. Same spec as mine. Car was very quiet, no faster and yes the turbo's do make it a different drive and sound, from the NA car. Had a couple of goes with the Launch Control.....great fun. Maybe a consideration.
After tea and cakes and a chat with a few people, we then got back into my NA car and straight away on startup the car felt and sounded like a Porsche should ( as I have said the others were all a lot more quiet ). I'm not saying the cars I drove were not fantastic cars but they were different from the NA car. I pulled away with the Sport button on and it sounded great and pulled just as good as the Turbo cars. I then booted it down onto the Motorway and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up.......that didn't happen driving the turbo cars. Switch the car back into standard (old man mode) and drove back to Norwich with a smile on my face. A great day out.
I do have a .2 for a couple of days later in February and will drive it on normal roads in normal traffic. I will update the message after that drive. I would then have hopefully had time to play with the SE and Sport buttons a bit , hope it's an S.

Interesting opinions, I currently have a 991.2 C2 as a loaner and compared to my 997.2 C4S it feels 'normal'.

Why buy a 911 to have a 'normal' car experience???

Was at PEC last Saturday but never thought to check; are all their 991 cars now the .2 turbo variants?
