World's longest burnout: Time for Tea?

Shameless publicity stunt actually turns out quite cool

Manufacturers are always trying to jump on the social media bandwagon when it comes to launching a new product, but you have to hand it to Victory Motorcycles for this one. The firm's new Octane was unveiled a few days ago in America and to celebrate the fact, Victory has set an official Guinness World Record for the longest burnout.

Stunt rider Joe Dryden managed 2.23 miles before the tyre eventually popped and, if you listen to the commentary on the video, it sounds like his front brake was about to catch fire anyway! Shameless a publicity stunt as it is, watching the video is still quite funny...

See it here.

Just goes to show how hard a compound tyre is used on these. Sorry tire.

You make it sound like you are an expert at this sort of thing.

In the meantime, whilst you practice doing some cones on a bike whilst not wobbling too much some Gary McCoy

While its definitely a difficult skill to master, I tend to agree with Stephen.

Whats the point? Its illegal in many countries, its a waste of money / tires, and, really, who is going to do a 2 mile burnout in the real world? I can barely get more than 100 yards up the road before seeing traffic here in south London. Kudos to you if you have empty roads, but somehow I suspect we wont be seeing you doing a 2 mile burnout either.

Video from you, or it didn't happen.

Says more about the tyre than anything. The hardest part about a rolling burnout is getting it started. Once your up and running, it's just a bit of clutch control and feathering the front brake. As with cars, a spinning wheel is less volatile than a gripping one, I'll always maintain.

I blew a rear tyre out doing it once as a warm up show for a local RWYB Drag event. The belting wrapped itself around the brake caliper so that the wheel wouldn't spin any more. Had to snip through a load of it with side cutters and then push it from the circuit. Then figure out how me and my brother were going to get home hehe

Crowd seemed to like it though.

A friend of mine decided to "finish off" his rear tyre by doing a burn out. He spent the next day getting bits of tyre out of the rear shock and the caliper, then ordered a new numberplate and holder, both got damaged by the tyre structure when it let go.

He didn't do it with the next one funnily enough!
