Win Your First Car Back

My first car was a D reg Lada Riva Estate 1.3 in cream just like the one below. It was carved from one large block of steel and handled like it. I remember getting it up to almost 90mph down a very long hill and it was very upset with me for quite a few hours afterwards jurking and spluttering. Would I want it back.........yes I think so even just for nostalgic reasons plus I think it could even be cool today........maybe.....

My current car is an Impreza WRX which is also my best car hence I have owned it for over 10 years from new.

If you haven't already, go to https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/
You can see if your old cars are still on the road. 90%+ of mine are dead now.
Amusingly, this indicates that the only one of my previous cars which is still on the road is the one which I actually destroyed on the Nurburgring (chassis bent, half the panels scrap, suspension and wheels on one side destroyed, etc... - to fix it properly would have cost squillions and it certainly should have been condemned. The insurance company mailed me a cheque and didn't want the original paperwork, so I actually still have the V5C, service history and 2 of the keys somewhere in my filing cabinet). My first car was a 1980 W reg Fiesta 950cc popular in a similar colour to the picture below. Although mine ended up with a black hammerite roof to try and seal a leaking non working sunroof. This thing even leaked on dry days! The sunroof was a saga in itself. It was slow, noisy, no radio or even space for a radio. Basic seats with no head rests. No reversing lights either, which made getting out of car parks tricky, as no one knew you were wanting out your space.
That car was 10years old when I owned it, and it felt about 25years old. The car I own now is also approaching 10 years old this year, it's a world of difference in comfort and refinement between the two.
I'd quite like a go in an old Fiesta again just to see how bad it was, but no way would I want it back!

I had several Mk1s and, at the time, loved them.My brother has one now (as a toy). What surprised me most was just how small they are. Two powerfully built directors would struggle to sit side by side.
1st car.
Vauxhall Firenza - Everyone else I knew was either in the Escort or Mini camp.
Best Car.
TVR Chimaera - Had a 'few' teething problems but I would have another one tomorrow.
Current Car.
Renault Scenic - Exciting eh? It's more of an A -> B car really and was my wife's but I keep it due to sentimental reasons than anything else.

My first car was a peugeot 307 2.0hdi (dont let that fool you, it only had 90bhp), and it was a rapier model, as in rapier your wallet with repairs.
I got it back working again and part exed it for a focus, but the night before handing it over the flywheel and clutch shat itself so trade in price was halved.
I would rather walk. Im oot!

First Car - Fiat Punto 1.2! - Ended its life Crumpled into the back of an Audi Estate
Second Car - Nissan Juke - My Nanny Waggon
Third Car (Best So Far) - Toyota GT86 - Owned for a year, Should Have Had More Power
Current - Mercedes C350 3.5ltr V6 - Bloody Rare Car - Should be best but only had for 1 month 2 weeks of that spent being fixed.

Worst Car was the one that replaced it a Citroen Xsara Forte. It was a 5:30pm friday special and everything went wrong with it
I've had the Xsara experience too. Mine was a 1998 1.6 petrol, and from the second day I owned it, it kept cutting out when braking. It was a regular visitor to Citroen, who were useless and couldn't fix it. I got the impression they were following the "Citroen engine management for idiots" flowchart each time it was in. Every time I got it back they insisted it was fixed this time. I got rid of it after 9 months as I couldn't stand the endless garage visits any longer. It's really the only lemon I've had. Even my first car, a Mk1 Fiesta I owned about 10 years earlier ran better than this thing. I've been reluctant to try Citroen since.I loved my first car. A super late E36 Compact 318ti Sport, on a 2000 'X' plate she was one of the very last of the last E36s
Avus Blue, half leather interior, she was a Cat C due to a front end knock but actually overall in very good shape indeed. By the time she left my possession she'd been lowered 60/40mm and treated to a custom exhaust system, this did liven the drive up no end but unfortunately the M44 engine a) revs at over 4k at 75mph and b) drones when you lift off the throttle meaning the daily drive was a little compromised as long motorway trips nearly always saw me arrive at my destination with a headache. But, it was so much fun to hare about the back roads with! Unfortunately I parted way with the car after the 'highly regarded local BMW specialist' told me a mystery engine rattle was impossible to diagnose therefore not worth attempting to repair. I ended up selling her for way less than she was worth as spares/repair to a buyer who instantly said 'it's the oil pump' and whisked her away. Fast forward seven years and a DVLA check shows she's still on the road and insured today. I really miss 'The Bluetit' as she was known, but I don't miss the horrible whiffs that occured on hot days due to milk spilling into the rear passenger footwell from a leaky 6-pint container in a bag of groceries! That one minor mishap did more to spoil the experience of that car than all the mechanics bills and loud exhausts combined!
