Thanks for that. From what I've read/seen the protection is pretty good on modern(ish) Porsches. I give it a wash with an angled connector on the pressure washer most weeks. I think the 987.2 S is a perfect compromise between all year round livability (not sure that's a word) and a spot of comparative fun when required I shall continue to use it as the daily without fear of it turning to dust.finestjammy said:
Excellent, just what I like to see. Can I ask if there is any sign of corrosion on the body work? I use my 987.2 S year round and by some comments on here I can expect it to turn to dust due to road salt.
No signs of corrosion. Despite my current location the car spent its early years -- from Jan. 2002 to Feb. 2004 in the Kansas City MO area and I used it year 'round. It saw snow, sand and salt.Edited by finestjammy on Wednesday 6th April 10:03
From what I gather the basic body and such will be fine. Exhaust hardware and coils can suffer.

Tremendous effort ! How has reliability been?
Reliability has been good. Has never stranded me though it has been close a couple of times. ID'd a noisy water pump -- in my drive -- and didn't want to risk it so had the car towed 25 miles to the dealer for a new water pump.
Fuel pump quit just like that as I was pulling out of my parking space at home. That was just a 3 mile tow. (Dealer had opened up in town.)
Another time what proved to be a bad clutch interlock switch darn near had me calling a tow truck. Think the Boxster was upset with me. I left it parked at the dealer when I picked up my 996 Turbo.
Another time the coolant tank gushed hot coolant right where the fuel pump quit and the bad water pump was ID'd. I let the car sit overnight and in the morning added around a gallon of distilled water and after not seeing any leak sign started the engine and after a check for more leak sign and finding none I drove the car 3 miles to the dealer for a new coolant tank.
Three AOS's have come and gone. All 3 required I have the car towed to the nearest dealer for replacement. First failure tow was around 45 miles, the 2nd failure 90 miles, and the 3rd was just 10 miles.
Besides just the usual wear items, and I might offer up that as the miles accumulate one can be surprised what items wear out (door locks, brake light and clutch/cruise control switches, door latch module, window regulators, oil filler tube cap (2 of these), AOS's, and even the gas cap tether/gas cap), but besides the usual wear items the only major problem was the passenger side Variocam solenoid/actuator went bad. This was at around 250K miles.
What's orignal? In the engine everything but the aforementioned VarioCam solenoid/actuator and spark plug tube o-rings. Outside the engine, the coils and clutch are original. 3 wheel bearings. Both condensors. One radiator. (Another bought the farm when I hit some road debris and busted the radiator). Coolant hoses. Shocks/suspension/steering.
Might add too the interior has held up well. Neutral grey partial leather. Plastic window cracked and I had that replaced. Within the last year the top developed a leak and I had the top replaced. Used GAHH top with the plastic window. Replacement top looks just like the factory top. Same color and same sound deadening/liner. Same big plastic window.
Floor mats worn through under the pedals but I'm too cheap to replace them. I can spend sums I don't like to think about keeping the car serviced but I can't bring myself to buy new floor mats.
This Boxster has been a great car and I've driven it over twice as many miles as any other car I've owned.
