Nissan GT-R breaks drift record
Ever wondered what a GT-R looks like sideways at 190mph?
This time, the fastest drift record was in their sights. Picking a track suitable for this attempt fell to Dubai yet again. The Fujairah International Airport's 3km runway was picked in order to comfortably attack the drift. The 2016 GT-R was developed alongside Nismo specialists and prepared by GReddy, it wasn't going to hanging around for long with the engineers aiming for over 180mph. There are no specifics on what was done to the car bar that power was increased to 1380hp with all power being sent to the rear wheels.
Driven by Masato Kawabata, Japanese drift Champion, the GT-R managed a drift at 189.49mph holding a 30 degree angle easily removing Polish driver Jakub Przygonski's 135.44mph record from the top spot. Let's see if Nissan can go for the triple and get the longest drift.
Watch the video here.
If the whole point of the record is to set the FASTEST drift, why show it in slow motion?!. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/12.gif

Didn't look like 186mph at all in the video.
-Slow-mo hides the speed.
-Where's the in-car footage during the drift?
-Why did they insist on using 'the voice over guy' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qvv8SMTyAgk
Shame, as the car looks and sounds awesome.
Not a fan of these cars, big and ugly, and their image a bit too 'McDonalds' for me too.
I still class 'drifting' as a bit McDonalds/Halfords carpark too.
On a similar note, there is a guy who lives near me who owns a lime green Focus RS thingy, which is not very old, all spoilers and aero 'bits'. All well and good, but he makes it pop and bang driving it at 25mph while wearing shades, with loud music playing, and he's in his 50's. And bald. Just wrong.
GTR's are a kind of Tescos Finest version of that.
This is how you film a high speed drift:
