Ford Mustang: Pic Of The Week

A drag strip, a Mustang and line lock - what the hell else was going to happen?

Burnouts are fun. Really, really good fun. Not big and certainly not mature, but as activities to do in a stationary car go, it must be the most entertaining. Yes, really.

So when presented with a Mustang, a drag strip and a feature specifically designed to roast rear tyres, the conclusion was predictable enough. Turns out line lock is reasonably simple to operate once you know the right combination of button holding and brake stamping. Not easy enough to have you accidentally lighting it up at every set of lights, but certainly fathomable if lots of people are watching on expectedly and it's your first time in the car...

As you can see, the results are spectacular. Line lock allows of 15 seconds of tyre melting anarchy outside and all manner of excited giggling from inside. Of course it's not practical, or especially relevant in the UK, but in the right situation line lock is absolutely hilarious. Makes good pictures too! So bravo Ford for keeping a drag racing feature in RHD Mustangs. And apologies to Santa Pod for doing this in the wrong place. Perhaps we'll have to return for another attempt...

TBH the pic looks like a rather poor attempt - I would imagine that the reality was somewhat better

From time to time, friends Down Under whinge about the "nanny state" in which they supposedly live.

"Give me an example of what you're talking about," I said. And my mate explains how Ford disabled the line lock feature for the Australian version of the sixth-generation Mustang, so as to avoid a confrontation with Australian federal authorities in Canberra. So, yeah, I'm thinking that's kinda nanny state.

Car Magazine (in the UK) also featured a number of shots of the line lock in action. Article here.

I have got one and I feel about the same....
made the exhaust louder. Great.

Now going for alterations to the steering geometry to try and get some feel into the really numb steering.

truth be told I can't afford one anyway - but the fact remains they still don't really do it for me

apparently it is something that the dealers (and therefore hire-car co's) can disable, TBH though it makes a burnout easier it's not essential

I'm surprised they included the line lock on the UK cars to be honest - but not complaining.

That said, it does rather perpetuate the myth that the car is only good for straight lines and drag racing.

Loving mine smile
