Alfa Romeo Sprint GTA: Pic Of The Week

A 70s Alfa Romeo, cornering on the doorhandles - desktop delight!

Our Spotted earlier in the week on a tastefully hot-rodded Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior rather underlined the weakness many of us have for these lovely little coupes. They do rather have it all though - a badge that plucks the heart strings as much as any in the business, delicate looks, giant-killing racing pedigree and that effortless cool Alfa Romeo does so well when it's on form.

Done up to look like a GTA, the car in question - like many - takes the inspiration for its modifications from the various racing versions that battled Escorts, BMW CSLs and more in 70s touring car competition. Suitably inspired we delved into Alfa Romeo's archive for a pic of the real thing, this one of a Giulia Sprint GTA being cornered in suitably spirited fashion back in the day rather fitting the bill. The reality might not always live up to it but it's nice to imagine every mile behind the wheel of a 105 Coupe FEELS like this...

There's quite a lot of confusion about what is what in 105 Bertone land.

Driving any 1300, 1600, 1750 and 2000 105 is worth a try. There's not much topping a well sorted GTV though. I prefer the post-73 series with the sorted pedals.

I'm happy to dig out some action snaps from my archives.
