Hi Peeps

I have been searching in vain to find this profile of rubber which is the top window targa seal...We pretty much know what the others are and i will be adding them to the parts list for you.

Unknown profile:

Commonly known as the "Girl with pigtails riding a bike"...Although id prefer a part number!.
I have had fun trying to source it or even know what it was from...Ive looked at around 2,000 seals worldwide in the last week and none come close...

Well apart from this one in China...Im sorry but I'm not supporting foreign countries that do not support us...Plus you have to order a minimum of 2000 metres...eek

One company i emailed professed to be in this business for nearly 50 years...I was assured that if they hadn't seen it then it wouldn't of been made....Errrr guess what....They've never seen it....laugh

One guy said it looked like a transit door seal...I said..."Yes it was in transit once upon a time...But when...What was it for FFS"....He said..."Dunno"......

I have since found out that the S...Chimaera...and Griffs all had the same seal...Cheers guys for using up our stocks...hehe

Now to say i was confused in the beginning was an understatement....However please look at the first picture and tell me how yours is because one of Poppy's previous owners obviously was not qualified to carry out such a complicated task..Both rubbers are facing the same way...i:e direction on both N/S & O/S...Now I'm really confused...Does the pigtail go to the glass or away from the glass....confused

The top picture is looking at the N/S front profile so the tail part would be facing to the interior...The O/S is facing the glass so now i don't know what is what????..Do you.....??????

However on another planet i removed the seal from the 280i Targa panel that i have and guess what....It fits...So WTF.......

The screen end needs to poke out from the targa to seal the gap between that and the door seal...
It could do with a "P" seal as pictured in the pic below.

280i top targa seal on a 350i targa panel...

With "P" seal.

The glass sits comfortably in the channel of the mohair with or without the "P" seal and the bulb rests against the inside of the glass.

I did find this one but it would need a bulbed edge seal to stick to....Its promising, The glass has a small channel to sit in and the off-set creates a seal.

The small lip that you see poking out needs to sit just under the outer line of the mohair or the seal won't sit properly and the window will push it out instead of in...A bit fiddly....

The glass sits nicely on it though....If the section poking out is missing then yours will leak...(Brent)

Im now on the hunt for an edged trim with a 25mm "D" seal as i have a hunch it could be just what we need.....I will obviously need to road test both to check for leaks...What it will mean is i will have to re-design my Targa bags as there should be a small section of rubber that sticks out from the front to seal the gap...Your car WILL leak if this has been cut off!....

I will post up my findings and hopefully solve an annoying issue....

Until then....

Cheers

Hi peeps...

Well I'm much closer to finding a solution....I tried a seal with three different seals on and one looked promising but only for the passenger side...The drivers side would of needed something else so to keep it simple i have found that the original door seals with an added "P" seal seems to do the trick.

The small gap on the lip of the "P" seal will be stuck properly with some weatherproof adhesive and sealed with mastic....The top of the glass sits just under the Profile of the "P".

It would be good if someone else could try this as my drivers door drops a bit and so is not helping.

What i did notice was that where the triangle part what the mirror pods sits on pushes the seal away from the glass so is a definite point of leak.

O/S

N/S

I need to adjust the window travel very slightly but even after that i think that a small section of added "P" seal would stop this from leaking .

I tested the top Targa seal by spraying water under the seal that rests on the top of the glass and the good news is it DOESNT leak....

I was going to see if i could make some seals up for others but the chances are that they need to be done as per vehicle due to the unique differences from one Wedge to another...

Cheers

Ziga
