I think any Monaro dealer can do it for you, but I might be talking rubbish! I need one done as well.

it would be interesting to know about the monaro routine for replacing a lost key.

However, lucky for me UK_HSV knows all about the GTS process. Apparently, you need two new keys to start with (if you want to keep a spare)....then have to get the car to programme the new keys.... then it all works!

So, I have to get another new key before I start this process.

Note: the original key worked for about 3 years before "Going flat"...still starts the car but no remote locking etc.

This is from the Holden service manual.....

NOTE 3:
The remote control key is a sealed for life unit (non
removable battery), therefore the housing cannot
be separated. The battery life expectancy is
approximately five to ten years.

so ask for a new one!!!!

ARSE - just phoned my dealer and it looks like I have to book it into the workshop for a warranty repair. Quite a lot of hassle for a keyfob battery, anyway the steering wheel is also coming apart so they can look at that while I'm in.

Took my Monaro in and they reprogrammed the dead key and have ordered a new steering wheel as mine is coming apart.

Watch this space to see how long shipping will take.

From whats been said on this thread they are sealed for life units & you cant swap the battery. They must somehow program it but I dont know how, I wonder if my new steering wheel will have a Holden logo.

dont know yet - its booked in for its 1st service next week so they will fix it then. However I think the just ordered the bits that have cracked (spokes) as opposed to the entire wheel.

SO - what is the procedure for reprogramming the keys then? I did read somewhere that you just need to make sure the metal ball is in contact with the ignition ring when starting the car - is that all there is to it? I guess not based on the earlier contents of this thread..... Car is a 2001 GTS-R.... One key is dead so I need to buy a new one...

I also tried the Monaro trick posted here elsewhere , that is to put the new key in the ignition, turn on, turn off and its supposed to be programmed. This didn't work and I still have only one new key, still unprogrammed!!

Greens do it.

OK, but I don't particularly fancy having to book the car in, take time off and drive the car all the way to Greens just to reprogram a key if it's something I can do myself!

So is there, or is there not, a way of doing it oneself?
