I needed a new car to do my new big commute. Doing around 350/400 miles a week at the moment. I originally had a budget of around £6k and was going to buy a e46/e90 320d/330d. Something like that.

But for that price, all I could find was quite leggy 10 year old examples, liked them still, but fancied something younger. My current car is 13 years old with 145,000 on the clock.

My good friend then reminded me of the new Fiesta ST. Its a bit smaller than i wanted, but its the same size as my current car. The engine is quite torquey so decent for motorway driving, it doesn't rev too high at motorway speeds and the fuel economy figure (probably all lies) is 47.9mpg. Which is the same (ish) as a 320d e46. Oh and it's an epic little hot hatch with 180hp and petrol engine.

Always really liked them so I went to see one down in London that was a very decent price at a Ford dealer, drove it, bought it. It's awesome!! Spent a lot more than I originally wanted but its a nearly new car with 15k on the clock and 2.5 years warranty.

Its a spirit blue ST-2 with a 'Style Pack' so has the following:

Half leather heated Recaro seats.
Bluetooth.
Parking sensors.
ST branded illuminated sills.
LED Daytime lights and projector headlights.
Tinted windows.
17 inch alloys.
Start stop button and keyless go.
AUX input.

Hopefully picking up tomorrow so more pictures soon!

Proper job OP!

a leggy 320d might have made for better long distance cruising, but todays superminis arent bad either, and this will be tons more fun then a big diesel barge round the twisties.

I've got one of these and its freaking awesome, utterly awesome, on a back road it is so much fun , cant think of a car thats put such a smile on for face for years tbh, reminds me of a new era r5GTT which was one of my all time faves and a massive compliment... i was impressed that it tips the scales at only 1088kg... lol how did they manage that!

Thanks and good to hear! No, its not going to be the best cruiser by any means, but you only live once!

Its a Fiesta, hardly a Westfield or Caterham it will be perfectly fine on the motorway.

Mrs Podie has one. It's a hoot. It's like a little terrier - just wants to go and play.

I've had 2.

First & foremost, move & disable the obd port & get a disklock.

Then enjoy it, they're awesome little cars.

You forgot to mention classier looking, rarer sight to see on the roads, better built, better residuals, more torque, more doors, better paint options, better alloys, wider tyres, bigger brakes and better interior.

That said I'm sure the owner will be very happy with his purchase so no need to put him down like this ; )

OP I'm sure you'll love your new purchase!

Good choice, OP!

I've had mine from new since early 2014 and I love it.

I don't do as many regular miles as you (a little over 2 years old now and 27k km on the clock from new), but my car regularly does 40+mpg on motorway trips to/from the UK or Le Mans.
Commuting mpg is usually around 40mpg too!

Nice choice, I had one from new also (cheap lease deal). Really cracking hot hatch that I am mighty impressed with, genuinely good fun and great economy on longer trips.

I've also got one on a cheap lease which goes back end of Feb next year and I really would recommend them to anyone!

The ride is starting to annoy me now though as my commute has changed to a road with a lot of speed bumps on!

the thiiiinnnnggg iiiiisssssss....if you spent "a lot more" than your original budget - would that not have seen something better than a leggy e46 320d?

Not knocking the fiesta at all - great choice - but it seems strange that you ignored your budget and bought something less suitable?

Probably same as me I'm guessing the general running costs of this are quite cheap (fuel/tax/insurance/tyres/parts etc)

That's what I was thinking.

Didn't want a leggy 320d so spent £15k on a hot hatch which would have got him a nice 320d coupe like this :-)

OP, just admit you didn't want a 320d in the first place :-)

Who would want a 320d over a hot hatch???

Apart from a hardcore tailgater?

Definitely not gone mad! I recently changed my stage 1 2003 Audi S3 with 116k on the clock for a 2014 race red ST2 with 14k on the clock. I considered cars ranging from M3, Jag XF, another S3, S5, Focus RS (mk2), Mini JCW, Golf R etc and decided that my priority over a 'prestige badge' (= self-image) or pure power was decent handling, a fun chassis and real-world performance. Had to have 4 seats because occasionally I pick the kids up from school / take them to swimming lessons etc if my wife is working.

Do I miss the S3? For sure. It was my pride and joy for almost 7yrs.

Do I love the ST? 100% YES! It's the first car in a long time I've wanted to drive just for the fun of it. Absolutely fantastic car and if you've not driven one then you're missing out in my view. It's what PH is all about.
