First shots of LaFerrari 'Aperta'

Drop-top LaF looks absolutely phenomenal

The first photographs of the new drop-top LaFerrari have been revealed, this following Gordon Ramsay boasting of having an order in for one on Top Gear. He's a lucky man too - it's a stunner! Especially in the colours shown, Ferrari choosing flattering colours with a soft pin-stripe flowing up from the nose to the windscreen all the way back past the engine.

Details on the name and technical specs will be revealed at Paris later this year but expect the same running gear and power as the LaFerrari. In case you need reminding that's an 800hp V12 coupled to a 163hp electric motor capable of hitting 62mph in less than three seconds. Ferrari says modifications have been applied to chassis and aerodynamics to keep the cabriolet as stiff and slippery as the coupe.

If you are looking at buying one as soon as it hits showrooms, you are out of luck! All examples have been already allotted and sold after a special preview, even though the final number is unknown. Ferrari built 499 examples of the LaFerrari and the F12 tdf had production increased to 799 units. Will the Aperta stick to 499 or is it going to be more common than the coupe?

If you need a reminder of what it is capable of check out the video below

Looks awesome, nice to see one in black rather than red, amazing what chopping out the roof does to the looks.

Meh.

About as relevant as buying a Soyuz rocket.

Maybe I am getting old and grumpy but these hypercars are increasingly leaving me cold.

Lets be honest here..

In the UK, there is a reasonable percentage of people whom, on seeing Gordon Ramsey pull up in some traffic driving this thing with the roof off, would probably take the piss.

Some would throw their McDonalds wrappers at him.

These cars are not meant for these shores.

This is how much the driver of the LaLa Aperta is going to care that the Aston/Red Bull car is faster than an LMP1 car:

Bring me my Cape Robin, we're going out for a drive....... laugh

Why did we never get an open top Enzo?

This is hideous (as an open top Enzo would have been).

Let's be honest. A large proportion of the people that will own this level of car is likly to be an utter tt of a human being, the kind of megalomaniac that cares nothing about the many people that work themselves to deaths door on piss poor wages, or the kind of person that gambles with other people's money and hedges misfortune and makes money from or causes financial disaster. Or fails to performe for their national side.....

A lotto win doesn't buy you this level of car. You need to rape a third world countries oil and gas resources.

Ego maniacs car.

Does he not live in LA now? He could get away with it over there and I would hazard a guess that there are some nice roads outside the city he could use it.

He is right however.

To get close to being a first owner the amount of money you would need to line Ferrari's hands with must be phenomenonal. A Motor YouTuber tried to calculateculate the cost and it ran close to 15 million dollars..... (he owns a few nice cars so has a much better idea than me on these things I'd presume)

I'm sure it's largely a question of function over form, but that is a truly awful looking car to my eyes.
