Red Victor at it again!

That old Vauxhall is off to Bahrain to claim its street legal record back - here's how to get involved

Everyone who knows just a little bit about drag racing will know about Red Victor, the Vauxhall Victor owned and raced for many years by Andy Frost. Up until 2014 it was the world's fastest street legal car, the record taken at that time by Larry Larson with a 5.88-second run.

Next stop Bahrain!
Next stop Bahrain!
But now Andy and his team are back, competing at the Bahrain Drag Racing Club for this season and determined to reclaim that record. The car has been rebuilt and is now producing in the region of 4,000hp (!), the aim being to get the car to a five-second quarter-mile. Which would be a fairly emphatic way of reclaiming the record.

We've had a chat with Andy about the project and it's clearly been a labour of love for him, a huge amount of time and effort put in beside his day job. This on top of the fact the Red Victor, in one form or another, has been around a for a while now: the Red Victor story goes back to the 1980s!

While the Red Victor rejuvenation has been largely in secret for many months, the project is now going public to gain the last bit of required support. Getting a car and a crew to Bahrain is not a cheap endeavour! If you can pledge anything then the team would of course hugely appreciate any contribution, and it means you could be involved with a world record. Donate here, and we'll keep you posted as to Andy and Red Victor's progress!

Except it's IVA legal. Legal with the bonnet on. This is the most legal car out there in this field of street legal racing. wink
Zero rated emissions too.

Has it had to go thru an IVA test ? The same test kit cars have to go thru ?

Into the 5's it should say.

A 5.7 would do nicely.

The 2nd 8th is where this car is currently mind blowingly good.

The knack is getting it to 300ft quickly with no tyre shake.
If you can get to that distance quickly and cleanly it will always go down the track.

This is why He needs a Stella track and plenty of passes to tune it just right.

He will never get that opportunity here.

I don't remember the figures but Andy will be along and quote some back half times.

Of course if I'd have done a burnout at the test station in front of the examiner it would have failed. tongue out
Runs on slicks at the track. Treads on the road.

Hoosier Drag Slicks on the track. Does the whitewall lettering not give that away wink

Top Fuelers run over a shorter distance 305 metres vs the old 400, so not 100 percent comparable, the old 1/4 records were like 4.5, so anything in the 5's for a quarter by a road legal car is amazing.
