We have a Jan 2012 cayenne 3.0 diesel...we already have a big SUV so looking for a change

any one gone from cayenne to a Macan..I know its smaller, couple hundred KG lighter means better performance and from a short visit to the OPC nothing to suggest less "luxury".

I can get a 2014 cayenne diesel S for £12.5k and my Cayenne .... 2 years newer (21k miles) sound ok ??

I had a Cayenne Diesel before my Macan which is Petrol.

The Macan has a much smaller boot if that's important

Driving wise the Macan handles better and hides it's size much better than the Cayenne ever did, with PASM set to Sport Plus it's actually pretty handy in the corners, and dare I say nimble! (or as nimble as nigh on 2tonne of car can be) it certainly is fun to drive I don't think I ever thought that about my Diesel Cayenne if was functional rather than fun, comfort wise both had air which give a lovely smooth ride.

The Macan is more luxurious inside than the Cayenne was, though I put that down to my option choices and that is the 18way seats and full leather that were not in the Cayenne. Fit and finish seems better on the Macan.

Easy choice if it were me - V8 diesel cayenne trumps V6 diesel Macan. If the Macan was a petrol Turbo/GTS it's tougher.

Don't want another large SUV ( have a RRS and just ordered another for sept)

The cayenne is slightly golf GTD like , so expect the Macan to be even better....

Thought about a Panamera but ideally want 5 seats and the silly lanky dog has to come along as well

Did you order a 2017 RRS? I didn't think they were building them until October.
No - took a stock car (well in the pipeline) long story but the RRS is kind of 'company car' so costs are fixed (for me) regardless of deprecation, and swap out every 6 to 8 months.

I drove a new Cayenne diesel back to back with my Macan S diesel (new in July). Macan quite a bit smaller, but still a decent size and decent boot. Engine in the Macan seems more refined/quieter which I guess is down to sound proofing / more modern design - diesel really ultra refined in the Macan, very impressive. Build quality seems the same (but both cars spec sensitive) - I have full leather (not bad value as Porsche option prices go and really lifts the interior quality). Macan feels much more car like to drive, whereas the Cayenne even though superb feels more SUV like - both cars on 21's. I have air suspension which gives such a refined ride / very little roll - really really impressive - had a good hack across the Alps a couple of months back and blown away by how good the handling / body control / refinement is. PDK gearbox very impressive once underway but can be hesitant at parking speeds in and out of D/reverse - I would actually say for the diesel engine the auto box in the Cayenne is better (please don't shoot me down in flames!!) - I imagine the PDK on a petrol Macan works better as a more revvy engine. However one thing I would say is a nice spec new Cayenne does have more of a sense of occasion / X-factor, special wafting along type feeling to it being a larger car / bit grander vs the Macan which does feel like the smaller brother! Did the Alps trip with one of my best mates who's owned lots of nice motors (911's, AMG's, M cars, etc) and I've been lucky enough to drive some very nice cars over the years - it was my first proper trip in the Macan and we were both blown away by just how good the Macan is - on numerous occasions both saying "how impressive is this Macan"....!

Another factor to consider is that the new Cayenne should be out within 12-18 months - judging by the new Panamera, the new Cayenne is going to be very impressive..... Last thing I would say is that the Cayenne S (v8) diesel is a very different car to the standard Cayenne diesel - that engine has proper X-factor, sounds amazing, properly laugh out loud fast, one of those cars that just feels sooooo special.....

The new, add blue, V8 diesel sounds crap, it's lost the muscle car sound.

My wife had a 2012 V6 D Cayenne, we tested a number of Macans and then she drove the Cayenne S Twin turbo Diesel and that is what is now in the garage.

Really? Maybe the fake noise generator in the exhaust wasn't working.
Not sure if there is one fitted to the new V8, the post add blue is a different drive compared to pre add blue, nothing like the mid range power, lots of lag and very harsh vibration through the steering wheel and pedals.
Mine is going in to see if this is normal or I've bought a dud.

similar ,tested the macans and the cayenne and we thought the cayenne felt a class above so she go the cayenne ,the macan actually felt a bit cheap inside .
