Jaguar F-Pace SVR spy shots

Well a car testing at the Nurburgring isn't going to be a diesel hybrid, is it?

While a faster F-Pace seemed almost inevitable in the Jaguar 4x4 product plan, it's surprising to see that car testing quite so soon. But these are the first images, the SVR is a car guaranteed to be widely discussed and we do love a bit of spy shot speculation - here are the informed (or otherwise) guesses!

It's a shame there's no video with these images really; the sound has been described as "amazing" by our spy photographers but frustratingly without any further detail. Is it using the V8 widely seen in other fast JLR products? Or is there more headroom in the supercharged V6 for a performance variant? The F-Pace is in that strange position of being between the smaller SUVs (Macan, X3, GLC) and the larger models (Cayenne, X5, GLE), so expect a flagship to sit between those in terms of power. For reference a Macan Turbo produces 400hp, with a Cayenne Turbo at 520hp.

Anyway, to the Nurburgring images here. Given the lean on show they certainly weren't hanging around! Note on this car the revised front intakes, presumably because a larger engine requires additional cooling. The brakes behind these wheels - anyone recognise the latter? - look pretty serious too. The exhausts appear modest at the moment, but expect something a little more overt as production comes around.

There are rumours of this SVR being launched as a 2018 model, which would suggest a motor show debut at some point next year. Expect plenty more from Jaguar as that date approaches because, well, Jaguar rather enjoys making a big deal of its new cars. And can we have an XE SVR after that, please?

Not totally sure, but I think I saw this (or pretty similar) parked up just outside Bala yesterday morning, next to a Cayenne. En route to Evo Triangle, perhaps?

Yes, I should have stopped and grabbed some photos. smile

Plenty of more mundane cars, including diesels and hybrids, are tested at the 'ring. It's not exclusively for high performance variants.

Why guess what the engine is, anyway? The plate's been blurred out - I'd presume it's a UK reg... So what capacity does a vehicle enquiry come back with...?

<two-second google>

AutoExpress are less shy about the plate. So...

Ah. Bugger. CC Not Available! But it's red under the camo...

I was just about to make the same comment.

Which is more likely to be driven hard, a cheap/common car or a super exotic one?

Not really relevant but I've seen a camo'd facelift F Type coming out of Birmingham on the M6 today. Looks like a few subtle improvements on what's already a gorgeous looking car.

It could be the next mini, the way they're increasing in size...

It's fast enough to rip the plastic trim off the edge of the windscreen!

Comes up as Jaguar, model not known, red, petrol and 3000cc... so a bit disappointing!

Hunch would say yes as the capacity is bang on for the replacement I6 engine instead of the V6.

The recently published youtube video of the same car leads me to believe that it really is the new I6 turbocharged unit as it sounds very much like that type of an engine. The current V8 and V6 sound totally different. Could it be that their new I6 is close to being launched then? But then again why is the new Discovery 5 launching with the old V6 next spring?..

Last report I read on this were the lower powered versions were coming out in 2017.

I agree it does sound more like it is the I6 from the video.
